Vanity Affairs: Nathan McGuire’s Secrets To Embracing His Natural Hair

The model’s effortless beauty routine is the stuff dreams are made of.

There are some people who have an I-can’t-put-my-finger-on-it kind of glow—a certain je ne sais quoi, if you will. You know the ones—their hair falls just right, their skin is dewy but never shiny, and they seem to exude confidence.

In the interest of public service, we’ve set about tracking down these actors, influencers, models, founders, entrepreneurs, musicians, spokespeople (and more!!) to find out their secrets. Have you got your pen and paper ready?

Previously, we’ve spoken to Jules Sebastian, Georgia Fowler, Jonathan Van Ness and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Today, we’re going inside the beauty cabinet of Australian model, Nathan McGuire.

You’ll likely recognise McGuire from the runways of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week or from his campaigns with the iconic labels Country Road and Sportscraft. But if you’re yet to be acquainted with the proud Whadjuk Noongar man, allow us to introduce you. Growing up in Western Australia and now based between Sydney and Melbourne, McGuire fell into modelling by happy accident. Destined for life on the hockey field—he was selected as a development player for the Australian men’s hockey team—McGuire traded the hockey stick and mouthguard for the fashion world just over six years ago. With ambassadorships, fashion magazine covers and iconic campaigns now under his belt, it’s a wonder he had any time left to chat with us (but, oh are we glad that he did!).

Here, McGuire shares every single product he uses for his skin, hair and scent to keep him feeling (and looking) his best.

“At the moment I have been loving Hunter Lab. They were one of the sponsors of Fashion Week and their products saved my skin during those super busy five days. I use their three-step skin health routine which has helped to keep my skin really happy over the past month or so. I start with their Cleansing Facial Scrub to purify my skin in the morning and then I go in with their Marine Healing Essence. I find this product helps to cool and refresh my skin before I go in with the Lipid Vitamin Face Oil which helps nourish my skin and leaves a lovely glow.”

“In terms of my nighttime routine, skin health is something that is very new to me because of my job. I found that through Fashion Weeks and photoshoots, my skin was beginning to look tired and I needed to put a little more effort into it. When my skin feels good, I feel more confident, so I am definitely starting to realise the importance of a really good routine. That being said, I only do a morning routine at the moment and at night I might just splash my face with some water.”


“For my hair, I really like to use products that are as organic, natural and cruelty-free as possible. That’s really important to me. My hair has also been one of my biggest battles because it’s really frizzy and curly and for the longest time I didn’t know how to look after it properly. Then, one of my mates, who is a hairstylist, suggested I grow it longer and up my conditioning and that has really helped. I just let my hair sit in conditioner (I love the Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Rinse) and sometimes I don’t even shampoo it when I rinse it out. I find this helps to nourish my curls and has helped me understand my hair a lot better.”

“In terms of styling, I also keep it pretty simple. I use the Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion Curl Enhancing Lotion as I find it helps to calm my hair down and perfect any crazy curls. It’s a lovely product because it feels like it’s half-treatment, half-styling product, so it never feels drying or crunchy on my hair. It just works so well for me!”


“I am definitely a signature scent kind of person. The one I use day-in, day-out is Black Saffron from Byredo. It just smells like me. I’ve used it for as long as I can remember. Not only do I love the scent but I also just love the branding and style of it. It’s the whole package!”
