An ode to salt, sunshine and very good beauty.

English beauty, Joanna Halpin, is a model and photographer hallmarked for her simplicity. Be it her graceful sense of self, less-is-more approach to beauty or her uncomplicated vision to capture the there and then, Jo’s style of documenting her life throughout the years has become a byproduct of her modelling career which sees her trotting across the globe frequently. Although her environment is forever changing, one thing remains constant: her effortless style and ability to share her world in a way that is reminiscent of sundown; the end of summer.

Jo recently tied the knot with Australian filmmaker and director, Daniel Askill, which naturally lands her down under for most of our summers.

“I love enjoying the summer here,” she says. “I grew up by the sea in Cornwall (south-west England), so I feel the most ‘me’ when I’m enjoying the beachreading a book, having a swim, enjoying the sun with my friends and husband.”

Jo and Daniel married in September during last light in a seascape setting in Greece. Jo kept her look undone and natural. “I ended up doing my own hair and makeup in the end as my friend booked a job in New York. It worked out so wellI felt myself using just Weleda skincare with a creamy highlighter and I wore my hair in a loose bun.”

Weleda Skin Food is Jo’s favourite everyday product, used as a base before applying anything else. On set, Jo paired this with an SPF 50+ sunscreen which makeup artist Tracy Terashima admits is her “hack for a shimmery and dewy look, but also protects us from the harsh UVA and UVB rays.”

“I like to work with a model’s strong features,” Terashima also explains.Jo has great eyebrows so I fluff them up and use minimal product. I then lightly contour the face and add faux freckles with a baby Q tip using Tom Ford’s Eye Colour Quad in De La Creme and voila, an effortless sun-kissed look!”

As for hair, creative stylist Lisa Fulginiti played with the elements. “I did three hairstyles on Jo using just a little bit of Colour Wow Pop & Lock High Gloss Serum to smooth out her hair but also adding water to keep her natural, beachy texture. I did a piecey plait, a compact bun and then a slicked-back wet look which doesn’t have too much structure.”

When it comes to her honey strands, Jo says she’s ready to take on a new look. “I’ve always been a long blonde and it’s been very much a part of my modelling life,” she says. “I have this desire to cut it all off, I think it will be very freeing…anyway you’ll have to see if I commit.”

Since the shoot, Jo did just thatnow rocking a trendy, shaggy bob, we simply cannot get enough.
