As we edge closer and closer to summer – the season of spontaneous weekends away and festive international travel – an air of uncertainty lingers. It’s time to rethink this year’s travel plans. The good news? There’s an untapped holiday destination hiding right under your nose: your nearest capital city.
THE CALILE
When The Calile opened its doors in late 2018, it didn’t take long for travellers to flock to the sunshine state in pursuit of one of the hotel’s pastel-hued rooms. With breeze blocks, open-aired corridors and natural light aplenty, this urban resort makes the most of the (sometimes harsh, always humid) Queensland environment. Did we mention that the majority of rooms look over The Calile’s palm-tree lined 30 metre swimming pool? Between the view, the rooms and the amenities, there is absolutely no reason to leave.

Luxury – but make it Melbourne. Conveniently located on Russell Street in the city centre, this modern hotel has an industrial feel thanks to raw finishings and quirky custom-made artworks. All QT hotels are designed to reflect the city they’re in; this one was designed by local architect Shelley Indyk and interior designer Nic Graham. In typical Melbourne style, the QT boasts a secret garden bar (take the elevator up to the rooftop for the big reveal) and French-style restaurant, Pascale. However, don’t let the details distract you – if it’s down time you’re after, the large rooms are so comfy, you won’t want to leave.
THE LANGHAM
Tucked away in Sydney’s historical The Rocks district just outside the CBD, this hotel is the definition of luxury. Check in to one of the Parisian-style rooms or suites before planning your stay. Will you book an appointment at The Day Spa by Chuan, dive into the 20-metre indoor swimming pool (set beneath a star-dappled sky ceiling) or dine at the Observatory Bar, first? All signs point to relaxation.
