Vanity Affairs: Bec Judd’s Secret To Perfect Second (Or Third!) Day Hair

The mum-of-four shares her time saving beauty secrets.

Welcome to Vanity Affairs – an editorial series where we document the early morning beauty routines of notable men and women.

There are some people who have an I-can’t-put-my-finger-on-it kind of glow – a certain je ne sais quoi, if you will. You know the ones – their hair falls just right, their skin is dewy but never shiny, and they exude confidence without being arrogant.

In the interest of public service, we’ve set about tracking these aforementioned unicorns down to find out their secrets. So far, GP has spoken to model Georgia Fowler, personal shopper Gabriel Waller, Queer Eye’s resident grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness and supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (amongst others).

Today’s unicorn? Jaggad co-founder, TV presenter, radio host, model, ambassador, renovation extraordinaire and mother-of-four, Bec Judd.

With over 800,000 followers on Instagram, Australians can’t get enough of Judd. Known for her perfect blow dry and dewy complexion, the Perth-native is a go-to a beauty inspiration for so many women. Now residing in Melbourne with her former AFL player husband Chris and their four children, Judd has streamlined her routine to be quick, simple and effective.

We spoke to Judd during the height of Melbourne’s COVID lockdown, which, as you can probably imagine, was pretty challenging with four little ones running around. “It’s busy but it is also the new normal now. Although, the novelty of the first lockdown has definitely worn off. It does sound a bit like a footy cliché but we’re just taking it one day at a time and appreciating the little things.”

Despite being confined to the home, Judd’s career is showing no signs of slowing down. A longtime ambassador of French haircare brand, Klorane, we managed to get the 37-year-old to divulge all the secrets to her eternally perfect hair.

HAIRCARE

“Surprisingly, I only wash my hair twice a week, thanks to Klorane. It’s amazing. Before that I’d always been an oilier hair type and would have to wash my hair every two days, especially if I exercised, but the new Klorane Aquatic Mint Dry Shampoo ($15.99) just pushes me through.

“I also love their Aquatic Mint Scalp Detox Shampoo ($13.99) and Conditioner ($13.99). It just really helps to cleanse the scalp. Especially since I use a lot of dry shampoo, over time you can get a bit of build up so this helps to really detox and thoroughly clean. The conditioner is also great for detangling and is super nourishing. And that’s about it. Three products, so simple. If I do really want to indulge I will also use the Klorane Mango Butter Mask ($24.95) — it is super luxurious and smells insane. There is nothing like it.”

SKINCARE

“I am big into actives, cosmeceuticals and serums — the whole lot pretty much. I am also the face of The Skincare Company and have been for years, so I only use their products. In the morning I like to use their Vitamin C Serum ($125) and their Hyaluronic B5 Serum ($125), in that order, and will then pop on the Hydrating Moisturiser with SPF ($95). About once a week I will also use my Microneedle Derma Roller ($49.95) to help the serums penetrate better into my skin. I don’t push too hard though because it makes me sneeze too much. Is that normal? Or am I the only one that happens to?

“In the evening I alternate between The Skincare Company’s Vitamin A Serum ($125) and their Exfoliant Serum ($125). You have to be super careful with both and only use a small amount but I find they are incredible at making you look younger, fresher and helping to promote collagen production. Oh, and I will always double cleanse with the Daily Cleanser ($55).”

MAKEUP

“I like to put a little bit of makeup on everyday because it makes me feel better about myself and makes me think I’m being productive. I always start with The Face by The Skincare Company Mineral Photo Touch Concealer ($45) to cover any darkness or imperfections and then pop over their Mineral Powder Foundation ($65) because I’m all about efficiency. Then I will use a little bit of The Face by The Skincare Company’s Luminous Bronzer ($59) in shade Maldives, then add some of the Velvet Blush ($45), a brow and their Lashes For Days Mascara ($35). For my brows I was taught a great trick by makeup artist Liz Kelsh — she always uses a lighter shade for a more natural, fluffy look. So I use the Face by The Skincare Company’s Precision Brow Pencil ($33) in blonde.”

FRAGRANCE

“My favourite fragrance of all time is definitely Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge ($347). It’s amazing. It’s one of those ones where you walk into a room and everyone stops and is like ‘what’s that fragrance?’. My number two would be Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady ($347) and then I also love Le Labo Thé Noir 29 ($440). I feel like that one is a good sensual night fragrance. It’s really sensual and sexy and I will usually wear it in winter.”
