A wedding is the perfect excuse to splurge on your skin, but we get that it can be overwhelming. There’s a lot of treatments and not a lot of time. That’s why Gritty Pretty’s introduced Bridal Beauty, our new section dedicated to word-of-mouth bridal beauty tips from those in the know.

We’re kicking things off with creative director of BEAR lifestyle supplements, Saasha Burns, who married her partner, Sammy Leetham, of then-eight years at their intimate black-tie destination wedding with 38 guests in Positano, Italy just over a year ago.

MY WEDDING SKIN PREP…

“I’ve always tried to look after my skin, but about three months before leaving for Europe I visited Stacey Burt from Little Company in Melbourne for pre-wedding treatments. It’s a beautiful clinic in a minimalist, all-white warehouse space in Cremorne.

My first treatment was ‘A Little Tailored’ to feed the skin with nutrients and bring back balance with a blend of Sodashi, MV Organics, and O Cosmedics products. A few weeks later I went in for ‘A Little Brighter’ peel that is rich in natural fruit acids and peptides, to stimulate cell regeneration and collagen production for brighter, hydrated, and more even skin. ‘A Little Light’ Heallite (LED light therapy) was added to all my facials to treat the skin from within by stimulating blood flow at a cellular level and to provide instant plumpness.

“The night before our wedding, my sister and I applied Sodashi Brightening Mineral Mask for 20 minutes – it’s my favourite mask for clear, hydrated skin. After an early morning walk down to the beach, I cleansed my skin and applied the ASPAR Rose Hydrating Facial Hydrosol to help wake me up before using a replenishing serum and moisturiser.

One of the best tips I received from a makeup artist at MECCA was to apply the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer before my makeup. My makeup stayed on all day and long into the night – even with a ceremony in 38 degree direct sunlight and lots of happiness tears!”

“I tried to keep my wedding look true to what I’d normally wear for a special event or occasion, and I tried not to experiment with too many new colours or products. I felt like I looked ‘like me’ in person, in the wedding video and in photos and I couldn’t be happier.”

MY MAKEUP ARTIST…

“I did my own makeup on the day as well as my sister and Maid of Honour, Tarrah. We went for a natural, golden look with a soft metallic eye and lashes, with a pale pink lip. I kept my base light with my all-time favourite Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser in ‘Glow’, NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm’ and Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette.”

MY HAIR STYLIST…

“I also did my own hair for my wedding. My sister and I washed our hair the day before the wedding and let it dry naturally. I parted my hair in the middle and curled it that night with a GHD, but waited until the morning to brush out the curls to create a soft wave. I always love my hair when it is slightly more relaxed the next day, and on the wedding day we were so glad we curled it the night before! I just added a little volume with L’Oréal Elnett Satin Hairspray before gently placing on my Viktoria Novak custom crowns.”

“I love the scent of figs, especially in Italy, and wore Diptyque Philosykos EDP to remind me of summer on the Amalfi Coast. Sammy wore L’Homme Yves Saint Laurent.”
