Bridal Beauty:
Marissa Sohtra of Twice Blessed

A wedding is the perfect excuse to splurge on your skin, but we get that it can be overwhelming. There’s a lot of treatments and not a lot of time. That’s where Gritty Pretty’s Bridal Beauty series comes in – a section dedicated to word-of-mouth bridal beauty tips from those in the know.

In this edition, we’re taking you behind the pre-wedding beauty routine of Marissa Sohtra (née Karagiorgos). Best known as one half of popular blog Twice Blessed, Marissa recently married her long-time partner Nile Sohtra in a beautiful ceremony at Gardens House, situated within Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens.

From the bride’s custom-made dress by One Day Bridal to her stunning brushed-out waves, this is a wedding you’ll want to screenshot for future reference.

MY WEDDING-SKIN PREP…

“I wish I was more prepared with my skin than I had been before my wedding, but luckily I did squeeze in two wonderful treatments at RATIONALE before my big day. I had an EpiNova PhotoSonic Facial – combination of pyruvic acid, a vitamin K infusion and a hyaluronic acid mask to rehydrate the skin. Then, I followed it up two weeks later (and a week before my wedding) with another EpiNova PhotoSonic Facial, this time with a combination of lactic and salicylic acids, a vitamin K infusion and a hyaluronic acid mask.”

MY SKINCARE REGIME…

“Since the month before my wedding, I have religiously been using a full RATIONALE program and it has absolutely transformed my skin. I’m so glad that I’ve finally found a brand that my skin responds well to. Sometimes using products from the same range can really help.

“In the morning, I use the RATIONAL #1 Immunologist Serum, followed by the RATIONALE #3 PhotoDynamic Day Cream SPF15. Next would be sunscreen, also from RATIONALE.

“In the evening, I use RATIONALE ProCeramide Pre-Cleanse Oil to get all my makeup off and follow with RATIONALE #4 ProCeramide Cleanser (this smells and feels like heaven!). I recently integrated the RATIONALE #5 Catalyst Serum into evening routine and I follow that up with RATIONALE #6 DNA Night Cream. I finish off with a hydrating eye cream – I’m currently using (and loving) La Mer The Eye Balm Intense and I’m coming to the end of my tub, ahhh!

I WOULD CHANGE…

“I would definitely start much earlier than I had. As mentioned, I only really started my regime a month out from my wedding. My wedding skin was okay, but it would have been so much easier to manage if I had started months before. I wish I had started two to four months before my big day – hindsight is so wonderful – as my skin three months post-wedding is so much better than on my wedding day. My skin tone is even, plump and beautiful!”

MY WEDDING INSPIRATION…

“I have never been the kind of girl to pack on the makeup or wear anything super dramatic on my face, so I really just wanted to look like me on my big day. Being Greek, I’m always drawn to a bronzed glow. My inspiration was being on holiday in the Greek Islands, with a bit of rosiness from the sun – sun-kissed and natural.”

MY MAKEUP ARTIST…

“My artist was the amazing Cassandra Lusi and she knew exactly what I was after. I trusted her 100 per cent. Initially, I thought some of the products wouldn’t work well with my skin, but she knew best! She started with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Radiance and followed with NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. To create a bronze sun-kissed glow, Cass used a whole lot of Charlotte Tilbury (one of her favourite makeup brands).”

MY HAIR STYLIST…

“My amazing hairdresser, Zoe from Boda Hair Boutique did my hair. My inspiration for my hair was actually me! My hair is always curly – it has a nice wave to it – but I wanted to give it a little more oomph. We used a medium-sized barrel to curl my hair, adding volume at the roots and spritzing some wave spray to make it a little less perfect. Loved it!”

MY LIPSTICK…

“I wore my ultimate favourite lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury in – you guessed it! – Penelope Pink. One of the most perfect nudes out there; it was so comfortable to wear on my lips all day.”

MY FRAGRANCE…

“I was lucky enough to work with Louis Vuitton for the launch of their fragrance last year and I was gifted a monogrammed Rose de Vents scent. I absolutely adore it. I don’t wear it very often – as the notes in it lean to more formal events than every day – so it was perfect for my wedding day. Nile wore one of my favourite scents on him, Maison Margiela By The Fireplace EDT. It’s so warm and sexy – love!”
