THE ORGANIC CLEANSERS THAT WON’T IRRITATE YOUR SKIN

If we had a dollar for every time we got asked about organic skincare, we’d probably be able to buy a small farm and a cute shetland pony to go with it.

The FAQs go a little something like this: Why should I use organic skincare? Is natural skincare the same as organic? What are the best organic brands?!

Our answer…

Organic skincare is no fad. It might not be for everyone, but the demand only continues to grow. Why? The main case for it is that your skin absorbs quite a bit of what you put on it and chemical-boosted products might just be too darn extreme your face to dry out or become irritated, which is generally why people make the switch, either partially or totally to organic/natural. And yes, there is a difference. Organic products contain certified-organic ingredients grown without pesticides, growth-enhancing hormones or any other kind of human intervention. Natural products, on the other hand, aren’t necessarily “organic”. They just don’t have artificial fragrances, preservatives, GMOs, etc.

If you’re keen to see what it’s all about, we’d recommend starting with organic cleanser, because the results are immediate and measurable. The best ones will work just as effectively as processed products sans the chemicals. Here are our top picks:

Oily Skincare Face Wash
For oily skin.
Take a whiff of this and get smacked in the face with calming peppermint, rosemary and tea tree. It’s pungent stuff but if you like your cleanser as invigorating as chewing on six pieces of extra strength gum at once, try this. The slick operator cuts through sebum and layers of makeup as a pre-cleansing step, leaving behind a moisturising residue that confuses oily skin into reducing its own oil production. If this is a bit much, we’d cleanse a second time with a foaming cleanser (try: Kora Organics Foaming Cleanser). Oil cleansers do take some getting used to, but they come with a stack of benefits, which you can read up on here. Oily is 100% Aussie, too.

Estelle & Thild Biocleanse Silky Soft Cleansing Milk
For all skin types.
This cleansing milk by luxury Swedish brand Estelle & Thild has the consistency of silk. It’s hydrating and great for days when your skin’s been assaulted by gusts of wind or an AC/ heating system. Black elderflower and aloe extra leave skin conditioned but also refreshed. Again, just make sure to double cleanse if you’ve got hardcore makeup on.

Harmony Harvest Facial Cleansing for Dry Skin
For dry skin.
Created by Ami, a CHI energy healer based in Tasmania, this organic cleanser and the entire Harmony Harvest range is based on holistic and aromatherapy principles that interact your olfactory (sense of smell) as much as your skin. It features natural fragrances of peppermint, tea tree, and green tea that relax the body and the gel formula lathers into a gentle, purifying foam while also reinforcing the skin’s natural protective barrier with avocado, safflower and calendula extracts.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Miracle Cleanser
For ageing or sensitive skin.
If you’re not a fan of oil cleansers, and not everyone is, try a cream cleanser this winter. Be as liberal with it as Trump is with his opinions. This one has chamomile, eucalyptus, rosemary and bergamot – a dreamy combination. Certified organic and made in London, the restorative bio-organic formula with all sorts of potent peptides and probiotics keep skin youthful and bright and defends against environmental damage.
