This Is The Serum I Used To Get Back My Glow

Our Editor reviews Fresh’s dreamy new serum.

They say a change is as good as a holiday. Well, a holiday often makes changes to our skincare routines—and not always for the good. I learned this the hard way recently, when I returned from a 6-week trip to America to find my skin feeling dull and lifeless. I had a wonderful holiday, don’t get me wrong, but some combination of extreme weather (it was snowing), the flying (hello, dehydration), and the skincare I’d been using (a random assortment of travel minis), had made my complexion look and feel completely lacklustre. Determined to turn things around, I reached for a brand new product which had recently come across my desk: the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing Dream Serum.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing Dream Serum is a nighttime serum which works to resurface the skin. If you’re curious about what exactly that is, it essentially means the serum works alongside the skin’s natural renewal mode, exfoliating at a deeper level to uncover—or resurface—the new, healthy skin underneath. The Lotus Dream Serum uses a gentle mixture of two alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)—glycolic and citric. While citric acid works to loosen the dead layers of skin on the surface to reveal your radiant skin underneath, glycolic acid exfoliates at a deeper level.

I started by using the serum every second night. I was conscious that since my skin was NQR (not quite right), there was possible skin barrier damage that I was contending with. I discovered quickly that this serum was extremely gentle—after only a week’s use, I was experiencing so many positives without any negatives (no inflammation, redness or stinging)‚ and so I upped my usage to every night. This is in part because the serum has been formulated at a pH range of 4-4.5, which is very close to the skin’s natural pH. In addition to this, the serum includes skin-loving ingredients super lotus, which is exclusive to Fresh and a protective antioxidant, and polyglutamic acid, a hydrating ingredient that locks in moisture on the skin’s surface and holds four times more weight than hyaluronic acid. Because these both work to protect and fortify the skin, you can use it each evening (and this is definitely the way to get the best results, stat).

It helps that it’s a dream to apply—on first use, I immediately noticed its lightweight texture and beautiful fragrance. It uses peach leaf extract, which not only has a beautiful smell, but also soothes and de-stresses the skin. It glides effortlessly onto the face and absorbs quickly, leaving behind this calming, peachy scent. Due to its light texture, one pump is all you need to cover the face and neck.

Now, let’s get into the results. After using the serum consistently for two weeks, I had already started noticing an improvement with texture. That’s in large part due to the resurfacing prickly pear flower extract, which supports skin renewal activity. After a month of use, my skin feels noticeably smoother and I have my glow back again. I’ve also noticed a reduction in the appearance of fine lines around my mouth, which always seem to deepen when my skin is unhappy. What sets this serum apart from others I’ve tried is definitely its gentle formula—because it is so forgiving, you can actually use it every evening, which means your skin is properly cycling through the stages of renewal. Overall, this serum definitely helped me get back my glow.

I also love the packaging—the serum comes in a navy frosted glass bottle with a pump dispenser. This helps to preserve the potency of the product’s active ingredients. It also comes in a sleek bottle, meaning I can definitely take it travelling with me in future and avoid unhappy skin.

Whether your current exfoliant isn’t making the cut, your skin is in need of a repair (like mine), or you simply want a shortcut to brighter, more glowing skin, this dreamy serum should be your new go-to.
