This Aussie Designer Made Models Do Something With Their Makeup You Normally Shouldn’t

In case you’ve been living under a rock or having a digital detox from Instagram, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia was in full effect this week.

We’ve seen the usual beauty looks you would expect for upcoming spring/summer: bold lips, washes of colour on eyes, playful up-dos and nonchalant, undone waves.

However, on the final day of MBFWA one particular designer – Ten Pieces – caught our attention by getting down and dirty (literally).

“We wanted the models to have a really f**ked up eye, and a slept in look,” says Carol Mackie, M.A.C Cosmetics Senior Artist. Backstage at Bondi Icebergs Dining Room, it was the show’s makeup director’s application process that really piqued our interest. “We actually did their makeup last night before this morning’s show so they could sleep in it,” she revealed backstage.

“We used M.A.C Eyeshadow in Soot (which is aptly named) to give a really dark smokiness and we’ve been using our fingers instead of brushes to smudge it so that it almost looks like they’ve done it themselves,” says Mackie. Adding, “You know how when you do a black liner, and for some reason it always looks better the next day? That’s what we’re going for so we did just that – literally. This morning before the models hit the runway, we’re just simply touching them up with a bit of hydration using M.A.C Prep + Prime Softening Lotion and then we’re just spot concealing where necessary.”

This punk rock look served to compliment the collection made up of urban separates such as baggy shorts, drop crotch track pants and sleeveless hoodies while white freeway lines dominated the determinedly cool offering.

And, while we don’t condone sleeping with your makeup on, we do agree the lived in look is lo-fi.

Come on, tell us – do you wash your makeup off every night?

Are you guilty of leaving your makeup on?
