Here’s What You Missed From Gritty Pretty’s #OneNightOnly Makeup Masterclass

We did it! We hosted the inaugural Gritty Pretty Sydney & Melbourne #OneNightOnly exclusive reader workshops to sold-out crowds.

For those who missed it, those who want to re-live it and those who made it all happen (special thanks to our major beauty sponsor Maybelline New York), here are some of our favourite moments (and scroll down to watch the behind-the-scenes video):

Held at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Surry Hills, Sydney #OneNightOnly was the first cab off the rank. Guests showed up early (some by an hour) but at 6:30pm they all came up, dressed to the nines – mostly in black, women after our own hearts, though there was no dress code – and sipped on Aperol Spritz chased with sparkling VOSS Water.

The vibe was electric, as people gathered for photos taken by Social Playground in front of our ALAÏA Blanche-scented flower wall and mingled with other like-minded beauty-obsessed readers. Calvin Harris’ ‘Feels’ was going in the background – among other great beats throughout the night, courtesy of our very talented DJ, Niki Dé Saint.

Melbourne’s #OneNightOnly was held at Fitzroy’s up-and-coming event destination, Highline Melbourne – home to the Australian Style Institute by day. The renovated old denim factory with its minimalist, industrial aesthetic created an intimate space for creativity and learning. And learn, our readers did.

With Sally Obermeder of SWIISH lending her MC chops in Sydney, Nadia Bartel of Chronicles of Nadia leading the Q&A in Melbourne, and the expert panel featuring Maybelline New York’s Australian Makeup Director, Nigel Stanislaus and our very own Founder & Editor, Eleanor Pendleton, both events shared professional beauty tips, career secrets and highlights and little-known personal beauty stories that had the audience in fits.

Stanislaus (A.K.A Mr Maybelline) had the audience hanging on his every hilarious word during his Maybelline New York makeup tutorials, dishing out smoky eye tips for beginners as well as more advanced tricks contouring and strobing tricks for those in the know.

Everyone took away something new. Literally. Gritty Pretty’s gift bags were filled with spoils from Maybelline New York, The Daily Edited, Klorane, AveneMoroccanoilConair, ALAÏA and Byron Bay Cookies. And one lucky attendee from each city took home a $500 Samantha Wills gift card.

From the entire team, we are so grateful to everyone who came out and spent their Thursday nights with us. Without you, there is no event.

We’re going to own this first one as a success and here’s to an even bigger and better Gritty Pretty #OneNightOnly2018, hey? ‘Til next year!
