Get The Cover Look: Samantha Harris

Photography: Tim Ashton / Videography: Tom Roberts / Stylist: Lucy Wood / Hair: Taylor Redman / Makeup: Kristyan Low / Art Direction: Kate Reeves

We take you behind the scenes…

Indigenous model Samantha Harris catapulted onto the fashion scene at just 13 years old and has been a mainstay ever since. Not only is Harris a radiant face and Aussie icon, she’s also an empowering personality who takes her role model status seriously, always advocating for more diversity and inclusivity on the runway. Did we mention she’s also an ambassador for local beauty brand Biologi Skincare and a Goodwill Ambassador for World Vision? Basically, we couldn’t think of anyone we’d rather have on the Summer ‘21 cover of Gritty Pretty Magazine.

Harris’ Gritty Pretty cover was shot on location at The Langham Sydney with Tim Ashton behind the lense. Makeup artist Kristyan Low brought the glamour with a smokey eye; hairstylist Taylor Redman was responsible for that sleek yet effortless bun; stylist Lucy Wood turned to silk, lace and tulle.

Read on to find out how to recreate the cover look – no detail spared.

SKIN & MAKEUP

“To create this effortless glow on Samantha, I prepped the skin by massaging Biologi Bd Luminosity Face Serum into the skin. Then I lightly dabbed Sisley Black Rose Eye Contour Fluid under the eyes, followed by La Mer The Lip Balm to hydrate and soften lips. On the high points of the face, I applied By Terry Brightening CC Serum in No. 3 Apricot Glow – this gives skin a soft highlight and sits beautifully under foundation. For the base, I mixed Sisleÿa Le Teint with Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter and applied with a foundation brush. To finish the skin, I applied powder to the outer part of the face, keeping the rest of the face dewy and glowing. I brushed the brows up and set them using Anastasia Beverley Hills Clear Brow Gel followed by black mascara. To finish, I applied NARS Dolce Vita Lipstick and patted it into the lips.”

HAIR

“We created a dewy, sexy moment for Samantha’s Gritty Pretty cover shoot. It’s reminiscent of that time of the night when you have arrived home from an eventful evening and you’re getting undressed, recounting the fun you just had. To create this look, I used evo whip it good Moisture Mousse to create an almost wet look that set the hair in place. I applied the mousse generously and smoothed it down with a soft bristle brush. I created a bun that was quite neat and compact with an elastic and bobby pins to secure any flyaways. To finish the look and create that brilliant shine, I applied a liberal amount of Hair Ritual By Sisley Precious Hair Care Oil.”
