Get The Cover Look: Jasmine Tookes
Dialling in via FaceTime to see the magic happen, the Gritty Pretty Spring 2020 cover shoot was a day to remember…
Jasmine Tookes, supermodel, Victoria’s Secret Angel and co-founder of fitness platform Joja, covers the Spring 2020 issue of Gritty Pretty Magazine.
International travel may be off the cards, but that doesn’t mean creativity has to be. Thanks to programs like Zoom, FaceTime and Skype, we can connect with anyone in a matter of seconds, even during a pandemic.
This cover shoot took place in Tookes’ hometown of LA with the Gritty Pretty team dialling in via FaceTime (at 3am, no less!). The early morning call time was worth it to watch the magic unfold on what was a gloriously sunny day on the West Coast. Famed LA photographer Adam Franzino was behind the lens and Jasmine’s own mother, Cary Robinson, was responsible for that incredible wardrobe. The structural-meets-feminine hair was the work of hairstylist Kelly Peach and the ultimate smokey yet natural makeup look was perfected by Leah Darcy.

MAKEUP
“We went for a soft makeup look on Jasmine; we wanted to focus on her beautiful skin, rather than the makeup. To prep the skin, I mixed a moisturiser with my favourite face oil and a couple of drops of Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Candlelight for a ‘lit from within’ glow. For the base, I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and bounced it into the skin with a Beauty Blender to keep the skin’s natural texture. To fill in Jasmine’s brows, I lightly applied a bit of Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette. For the lips, we kept it natural with Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil.”

HAIR
“As this Gritty Pretty cover shoot, we tried to create a dewy and structural hairstyle for Jasmine. To start, I applied multiple layers of Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray. I blow dried her hair soft and straight, directing the hair away from the face. Then, using my flat iron, I created a bend in the hair and spritzed on Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray to add texture and movement. To finish, I applied Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray again to give the hair an extra dose of shine.”
