EVERY DAY BEAUTY

Somehow, miraculously, I have not one but two free days this week.

That never happens!

So, with all my free time (haha!), I thought I’d answer one of the most common questions I’m asked and break down my every day beauty look for you.

Every morning, I prep my skin. I do this religiously Every. Single. Day. Like anything in life, you have to work to get what you want and I work to have good skin both externally using topical products and treatments and internally by drinking water and eating the right foods. You can discover my step-by-step skin routine here. Once my skin is prepped, it’s time to prime.

NARS Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer is a winner and I often switch between that and Laura Mercier Radiance Primer (depending on whether my skin looks a little lacklustre).

Next, I cover any dark circles or blemishes with MAC Pro Conceal & Correct Palette in Medium. Lately, I’ve been into NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger because of it’s easy-to-use applicator. And, as the name suggests, it also has a very creamy consistency, which makes for flawless blending.

When it comes to coverage, BB cream or tinted moisturiser is my foundation of choice. Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream in Medium and Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream in Medium are my go-tos. Garnier’s consistency has a lot more movement to it. It has more fluidity and stretches a little further to give a dewy finish while Revlon’s is a little thicker and gives good coverage, balancing out any uneven skin colour, without masking freckles. Generally, I wear Revlon during the winter months and Garnier during summer.

Next, I’ll fill in my brows using Amy Jean Brow Blender Pencil in Soft Taupe and set them using L’Oréal Paris Brow Artist Plumper in Dark Brunette.

Recently, I had my lashes lifted by celebrity brow and lash expert Amy Jean (check it out here) so I don’t have to wear mascara. But if I do, I use apply just one coat of Benefit They’re Real Mascara to my top lashes and leave my bottom lashes bare.

And finally, if I feel like I reeeeeally need it, then I’ll dust my cheeks with NARS Bronzer in Laguna – it’s the bronzer I swear by!

Some of you might say, “Ah, how boring. Another person who doesn’t wear much makeup. It’s the no-makeup-makeup-look again.”

But, let’s get something straight. I love makeup. I’m a beauty editor. It’s in my blood. If Marie wasn’t my middle name, MAC Lady Danger would be. But, on normal days and especially on weekends, I just don’t feel like putting a bunch on. Even when wearing heavier evening makeup, I like my skin to still look like skin.

When it comes to makeup brands, like anyone, I have favourites. I love NARS, MAC, YSL, Stila, By Terry, Estée Lauder, Tom Ford, Dior and Chanel as much as the next woman. But, if you peek into my makeup bag at home, you’ll also find some fantastic beauty buys from Maybelline New York, L’Oréal Paris, Benefit and Lanolips as well.

To that end, makeup – whether natural-looking or overtly bold and unapologetically over the top – should always be fun. And, mixing high and low, in my opinion, should be fun too. Don’t you agree?
