Get the Cover Look: Elyse Knowles

A poster girl for the laid-back Byron Bay lifestyle (despite being born-and-bred in Melbourne), Elyse Knowles walked onto the set of our Gritty Pretty Magazine Summer 2020 cover shoot like she does with most things in life: with her beaming smile, loveable larrikin nature and an enviable cool-girl poise. 

With over 10 years of modelling under her belt, the 27-year-old model-turned-reality TV-star has grown to accept and understand herself. Thanks to an impressive modelling portfolio, a series of top-tier ambassadorships (think TAG Heuer, Myer and Aveda) and her time on the 2017 series of Channel Nine’s popular renovation show, The Block, Elyse has cemented her position as of one Australia’s most sought-after personalities.

With Byron Bay’s picturesque hinterland as the backdrop, the day was filled with positive energy. On glam, we had Darren Summors, AVEDA Guest Artist looking after Elyse’s hair and Ashlea Penfold on makeup. Natural, undone and effortless was the brief, and boy, did they deliver. Read on to find out how they created Elyse Knowles’ cover look.

HAIR

“To create the cover look, I prepped Elyse’s hair with AVEDA Thickening Tonic and a generous amount of AVEDA Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair for heat protection and hold. Then, I blow-dried the products into the hair (using the AVEDA Paddle Brush) to create shape and texture. To give the hair some incidental texture, I used a curling iron. To create separation and definition, I used AVEDA Texture Tonic. I finished with a good spritz of AVEDA Sun Care Hair Veil to protect Elyse’s tresses from the damaging effects of the Byron Bay sun.”

MAKEUP

“I went for a super fresh clean look on Elyse – something to make her blue eyes pop and skin glow from within. I started with a heavy-duty moisturiser as a base to create a beautiful dew. Then, I used a light oil-based foundation. To create a little brightness in the center of the face, I used Aveda Inner Light Concealer under the eyes and on the sides of the nose. I used bronzer to warm up the face around the hairline and a creamy blush on the cheeks and bridge of the nose. I dusted a bronze eyeshadow over the eyelid and the bottom lash line before adding mascara. Finally, I used a brow soap to push the brows up and filled in any sparse areas with a brow pomade.”
