COOL AZURE

From Paris’ Tuileries Garden to Morocco’s Majorelle, Yves Saint Laurent celebrates a legacy of bleu.

Reminiscent of bursts of aquatic tones from a fountain to the endless azure of sky and sea, YSL’s Creative Director Lloyd Simmons found apt inspiration for the new summer look collection (on counters this week).

“For this collection, my mind was full of all the shades of blue that surrounds summer, like the blue of rippling water, reflecting flashes of orange and golden light at the magic hour when the sun sets,” says Simmons.

Within the 6-piece beauté couture collection, the collector’s palette steals the show offering 5 ready-to-wear shades.

“The new palette has a very arty, graphic look,” says Simmons. Adding, “It’s a gorgeous way to play with colour, by starting with one shade or combining several.”

Simmons says the dark navy shade is designed to shape and sculpt the eyes while the lighter peachy hue is to highlight. As for the rest? “They’re created to contrast and modulate, much like fashion accessories,” explains Simmons.

Bringing the collection to life, the inimitable Cara Delevingne and Ondria Hardin appear in the new campaign visual.

Yves Saint Laurent’s new summer collection is available in store only at Myer and David Jones.
