14 Of The Gritty Pretty Team’s Favourite 2022 Met Gala Beauty Looks

The most (gilded) glamorous Monday of the year!

Happy Met Monday (or Tuesday), Gritty Pretty! That’s right, one of Hollywood’s most glamorous nights is back to its first Monday in May time slot. And as if the prospect of seeing Blake Lively co-host the event wasn’t exciting enough, the beauty looks at the 2022 Met Gala were experimental, fun and oh-so chic. So much so that very minimal work was actually completed in the Gritty Pretty office today–we were too busy dissecting our favourite looks!

But what is dissecting beauty looks if not shared with our wonderful readers? Here, we roundup 14 of the Gritty Pretty team’s favourite Met Gala makeup moments so you can fill up that inspiration bank of yours.

Kendall Jenner

“You heard it here first: I’m dying my eyebrows. Kendall Jenner made the case for bleached brows on the Met Gala red carpet—clever, as they made her perfect winged eyeliner and OTT lashes all the more dramatic.”

– Danielle Gay, Beauty Director & Executive Editor

Lizzo

“I’ll say what we’re all thinking: Lizzo can do no wrong. Embracing her natural hair texture and complementing her incredible Thom Browne look with a decadent deep purple lip, Lizzo looked powerful on the Met Gala red carpet. Her smokey winged eyeliner also added an element of sexiness which I loved!”

– Eleanor Pendleton, Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Hailey Bieber

“I love every element of Hailey Bieber’s beauty look. Elegant and classic, with a touch of glamour. Her simple, sleek bun highlights her natural features and works harmoniously to showcase her jaw-dropping YSL gown.”

– Nicola Sevitt, Special Projects Producer

Normani

“Bright and colourful, I am obsessed with Normani’s playful beauty look. Elevating her sleek black gown with a fresh green eye and exaggerated blush moment, this beauty look is certainly something to write home about. Plus, that updo? A masterpiece!”

– Rose Garnett, Beauty Editor

Kaia Gerber

“Kaia Gerber’s red carpet hair is the hair I dreamt of as a young girl. A long, long mane of thick gorgeous curls, pinned back with statement diamante clips. It is a dreamy vision and when paired with an Alexander McQueen gown, absolute perfection.”

– Sarah Daly, Art Director

Tessa Thompson

“If you haven’t already seen the bright blush trend all over TikTok, you’ve seen it now. Tessa Thompson takes inspiration from her stunning tulle-tiered Carolina Herrera gown and frames her cheeks, brow bone and temples with hues of glimmering pink. Topping the look off with a plum pink pout, we can’t get enough of the glamour.”

– Naomi Ferreira, Partnerships & Editorial Coordinator

Kim Kardashian

“Kim Kardashian in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Jean Louis’ dress, I mean WOW! Timeless. Historical. Glamorous. Her slick, pulled-back, bleach-blonde bun is this generation’s blonde bombshell moment. Paired with her subtle makeup that understatedly enhances her iconic beauty, this look is giving everything and more. Some would go as far as to say that the timing of her wearing such a statement look couldn’t be more poignant–the greatest revenge dress of all time!”

– Stacey Stageman, Producer

Blake Lively

“Blake Lively never disappoints. And this year her Gilded Glamour look stole the show in her incredible Atelier Versace reversible gown. Perfectly complemented by her natural, barely-there makeup and soft, flowing waves, the Art Deco ode to the Statue of Liberty is about as iconic as one can get.”

– Eliza Hynd, Head of Partnerships

Sydney Sweeney

“She may have been stuck in Manhattan’s notorious traffic but the Euphoria star stole the show with her gorgeous smile. Sydney Sweeney sported not one but two looks for her Met Gala debut and I couldn’t get enough. The angelic gown-turned-corset dress was dramatically contrasted with a smokey kohl eyeliner look which made Sweeney’s blue eyes pop. Can I be her already?”

– Hannah Brooks, Junior Designer

Simone Ashley

“Truly a ‘Diamond of the First Water’! Simone Ashley is giving Gilded Glamour in shades of mauve, rose and her signature glowing, fresh skin look. The hair is sleek and pulled back with a curvy side part for an element of surprise. I think this might be my new go-to for that in-between hair washes stage.”

– Naomi Ferreira, Partnerships & Editorial Coordinator

Carey Mulligan

“I love this whole look–from the spectacular custom Schiaparelli gown that has 79,000 sequins and took over 4,000 hours of embroidery to create through to Mulligan’s tousled, relaxed hairstyle and deep red lip. It’s understated sophistication with a bit of sparkle and grandeur.”

– Sue Hoffman, Strategic Partnerships Director

Camilla Cabello

“Nailing that ‘clean’ beauty look that we speak so fondly of now-a-days, Camilla Cabello stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet with dreamy soft-matte skin and the perfect peachy lip. I loved the softened winged eyeliner and the effortless updo that let her incredible earrings do all the talking.”

– Rose Garnett, Beauty Editor

2022 met gala

Laura Harrier

“Laura Harrier understood the assignment! Her dress screams drama but I am really here for the smokey gunmetal eyeshadow and slick sculpted bob. I think she was made for this era!”

– Hannah Brooks, Junior Designer

Taylor Hill

“You can’t help but get swept up in the grandeur of this amazing gown–it just demands attention. Hill’s makeup look is perfectly on point–neutral and pared-back so she can let the glorious gown (and those amazing lace up boots) do all the talking.”

– Sue Hoffman, Strategic Partnerships Director
