Feel like doing some good?

Beauty is a multi-billion dollar industry, and admittedly it’s quite a materialistic one. Fortunately, many big beauty businesses also have a penchant for giving back through vital philanthropic campaigns that reach those in need all across the globe.

The only thing missing… you. Here are just a few initiatives currently in action that pay it forward, but require your participation.

Get amongst it, OK?

Back for its third year, this global initiative aims to empower women and their communities through education, access to health services and financial self-sufficiency. Benefit Australia have already pledged donations of $200K, and hope to surpass that figure this year for local charity partners: Fitted for Work, Sister2Sister and Look Good Feel Better.

How to help: Simply get your brows done at any Benefit Cosmetics counter in Myer stores nationally during the month of May, and $10 of your brow wax will be donated.

M.A.C Cosmetics

With a long history of celebrity collabs including Lady Gaga, Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and most recently Taraji P. Henson, chances are you’ve spotted M.A.C’s VIVA Glam Lipsticks and their larger-than-life campaigns at M.A.C counters before, but never realised their incredible significance. 100% of the sale price of VIVA Glam (minus tax) goes directly to the M.A.C AIDS Fund, which raises awareness and funds to provide essential support services for those living with HIV/AIDS. Since its inception in 1994, VIVA Glam sales has raised over $400 million worldwide.

Goldwell have teamed up with the McGrath Foundation and are asking women to add pink to their hair to raise awareness for breast cancer and support the nurses involved in the treatment and care of people suffering from this disease.

How to help: Until 31 May, get your hair dyed pink at any Goldwell salon nationally (find your nearest, here) and post a pic of your newly coloured ‘do to Instagram using the official #goldewellgopink hashtag, tagging @GoldwellAus. In return, Goldwell have pledged $100 to the McGrath Foundation for every post made. Picking up a product from Goldwell’s Kerasilk Colour Care Range (packaged appropriately in pink) will add an extra $2 donation to the tally.

Quick explainer: MS stands for Multiple Sclerosis, a condition caused by damage to the protective layers surrounding nerve fibres resulting in interference between messages between body and brain. Started in 2012, Kiss Goodbye to MS is an Aussie initiative that has since gone global, raising funds for research so that one day MS might be a thing of the past. Last year, over $1 million was raised.

How to help: A few ways… this year, Kiss Goodbye To MS have proudly partnered with Pout Cosmetics and award-winning makeup artist Becca Gilmartin to create a special limited-edition KISS KISS red lipstick (the colour of MS awareness). Every dollar paid (minus GST) will go directly to the the initiative. You can fundraise at any time (set yourself up at, but 31st of May is World MS Day, so why not hold an event then? Finally, there’s no such thing as too many red lipstick selfies in May to raise awareness. #KissGoodbyeToMs.
