BACKSTAGE BEAUTY: CHANEL F/W 15-16

In recent times, CHANEL has taken its fashion show audiences to a supermarket, a pop-up brasserie and a faux street protest to present its clothes.

On July 7, the French design house tempted show-goers with gambling at a makeshift casino at the Grand Palais in Paris to reveal its highly-anticipated CHANEL Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2015-16 runway show.

The luxury label hosted its couture collection amid roulette and cards tables, manned by smartly dressed dealers, as well as slot machines, where models and Hollywood celebrities including Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart and Rita Ora had a role – all wearing Chanel outfits and jewellery – and placing bets.

To compliment the collection of embroidery, lace, satin and braided leather detailing, models’ hair and makeup appeared to be a natural evolution from the previous CHANEL Cruise Collection 2015/2016 presented in Seoul, Korea – think slanted blunt bobs, thick brows, flushed rosy cheeks and ruby red lips.

Creating a doll-like quality, cheeks were sculpted slightly underneath the cheekbone using a combination of CHANEL Rouge Coco in Coco, CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Ultra Rose and Frivole while lips were lined in CHANEL Le Crayon Lèvres in Rouge Profond and CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Bouleversante (available August 2nd).

Closing the runway was none other than model-of-the-moment Kendall Jenner wearing a white satin wedding suit, accompanied by a long embroidered tulle veil – a true appropriation of both femininity and masculinity.
