Your October 2023 Horoscope

We may not yet be at the end of the year, but the season finale kinda feels like October. With the epilogue to Venus retrograde wrapping up (7 October), Pluto stationing (11 October) eclipse season kicking off (15 October) and a dramatic full moon at month’s end (29 October), resolution and clarity is coming in hot. The soul searching and navel gazing is done, and now the real action begins. While it’s not necessarily what we might think of during Libra season, after months of ‘Will I? Won’t I?’, the closure feels damn good.

I always recommend reading for your rising sign rather than your sun sign. You can find out your rising sign by casting your chart here. Want to learn more? Check out my book The Astrology Of You: Finding Love, Creativity and Soul Purpose In Your Birth Chart or find me on Instagram at @emma_vee.

Aries

Despite the usually amenable feeling of Libra season, there’s no shortage of spice on offer in October. With Mars, and then eclipses shaking the snow globe around your closest bonds, you may find yourself feeling decidedly edgy about matters of the heart. Rather than forcing an outcome, *try* to sit back and let relationships—and people—do their thing. All will be revealed, but you must be patient (annoying, but essential). The truth is, eclipses act like a cosmic cleaning crew: all you need to do is get out of their way and let them get on with the job. Yes, things are changing, but at least life isn’t boring. If things feel scary, ground yourself by focussing on your own stuff.

Tip: Celebrate a sense of resolve around a ‘should I/shouldn’t I’ conundrum the first week of the month, especially related to spicy flings or maybe baby questions.

Taurus

Your major moment in October doesn’t really arrive until the very end of the month when a lunar eclipse in your home sign delivers with the blockbuster finale you thought may never arrive. You’ve been on a steep learning curve since late 2021 but you’re finally through with all the lessons and you’re ready for graduation. Redefining your sense of self, your style, how you show up in the world, and what you put out there to other people has likely all changed…like, a lot. Give yourself a pat on the back (or at least shout yourself a massage) to celebrate. You’ve earned it.

Tip: Take time to reflect on how your relationship towards material security, pleasure and creativity has evolved the past two years.

Gemini

There’s a mischievous spring in your step this month as Libra season has you in the mood to let off some steam. Whether it’s impulsive shopping, sex or a scented candle habit, checking out from reality will feel more appealing than ever. It’s all good fun, but don’t be surprised if your thoughts take a more serious turn, especially around the first eclipse (14 October). It’s entirely possible a little too much of a good thing (or a very big night) could have you questioning why you do what you do, and if you might want to do a little bit less of it…

Tip: Neptune’s illusory influence early in October means you should take any major commitments with a grain of salt—especially from family.

Cancer

The eclipses are in full force this month prompting big changes too exciting to ignore. It’s a matter of surrender…or be forced to let go, especially around the solar eclipse (14 October). Expect new incarnations of old issues dating back to childhood to resurface, prompting you to consider what your heart needs to truly heal. Be prepared to listen (and prep your poker face) when Pluto stations on 11th; a window when someone close to you may feel the need to unburden some tightly held information.

Tip: Flirt with the idea of forgiving (it’s ok if you’re not ready to forget), especially when it comes to parents and/or close family.

Leo

The final resolution to your big Venus retrograde story plays out over the first week of the month. Your new, or newly rekindled lover affair with something (or someone) will have well and truly stuck … or fizzled. Either way, the deeper wisdom is reconnecting with something that makes you feel beautiful. Eclipse season could signal drama with extended family, but the real excitement comes at the end of the month when the full moon coincides with a big thunderclap at work. This has been a moment 18 months in the making!

Tip: If you have to make a decision, especially on the job, choose the safer, simpler option. Your career doesn’t have to be an extreme sport.

Virgo

Financial matters weigh heavily on your mind this month as the eclipses signal a season of rapid changes. If you’ve been thinking about committing to a major purchase, especially of the real estate variety, this could be the moment you finally quit dithering, and finally take the plunge. Expect things to happen rapidly; eclipses have a way of moving things along faster than you had in mind, and in the direction you least expected.

Tip: Go with the flow and let serendipity nudge you along to find the next best move.

Libra

It may be your home season but there’s no rest for the charming this month. With Venus gliding through your spiritual basement, there’ll be less impetus to get out and about than usual. Lean into the quieter mood and take shelter in some self-help podcasts. Relationships are highlighted by the eclipses, forcing you to acknowledge and release emotional baggage that’s passed its use-by date. Meanwhile Pluto’s station (11 October) could mark a huge realisation. Home truths will be too big to ignore, be brave and face things head on. You can do this.

Tip: Make this month your moment to observe the natural ebb and flow of relationship dynamics. Sometimes working out what you don’t want is as powerful as articulating what you do…

Scorpio

It’s been a major couple of months at work but the dust should finally settle by 7 October when Venus completes her final retrograde shadow period. Ponder how you’ve redefined what you care about, and what you desire, especially in the context of career. Are you breaking up with hustle? Or maybe you’re ready to strike out on your own? No sooner have you regained your composure than eclipse season barges in, stirring up all sorts of old stuff you thought you’d put to bed. If a solo getaway is a possibility, October is the perfect month to get away from it all.

Tip: Indulge your craving for solitude with a spontaneous mini-break for one, around the weekend of the 14th.

Sagittarius

Answers! Resolution! Blasts from the past! October has got it all, delivering you all the action and adventure your heart desires. As eclipse season signals the start of a new phase of creative expression, friends and acquaintances from deep in the recesses of your past will resurface. A friend in need is a friend indeed…until they’re not. Just like those neoprene over-the-knee wedge boots you had to have, some people only travel with us for a season or two. Letting go doesn’t make you a bad person—it’s time to make space for new boots (and friends).

Tip: Capitalise on the good vibes on the 22nd when a co-worker could give you a leg up at work.

Capricorn

October is all about letting go and moving on. No one knows how to finish what they started quite as well as you, and with Pluto’s station on 11th marking a huge turning point in your personal life, the gravity of this final sprint (or stoic shuffle, as the Capricorn case may be) is worth acknowledging. Despite your self-doubt, you can do hard things, and you’re doing them, probably better than anyone else. Prepare for a shakeup around work and be open to something bright and wonderful materialising over the coming months. Ask yourself, what do I really want?

Tip: Tie up loose ends at work. The energetic clean-up will make space for new beginnings.

Aquarius

By the end of the first week, you should have a heart (and head) full of resolve about who you want by your side. It’s the perfect energy charge-up for a dramatic month, where old patterns around co-dependency could be highlighted in sometimes uncomfortable ways. Try to roll with the punches, and look forward to the most exciting moment of October when the lunar eclipse in Taurus, marks the grand finale to a period of unrest around your work and/or home spheres. This is a conclusion to 18 months of ‘where to from here?’. Savour the end of this storyline.

Tip: Don’t let a momentary wobble around 11th throw you off your game—the self-doubt is fleeting.

Pisces

Are you in the mood for deep healing? Ready or not, October is set to serve you up a masterclass in what emotional baggage is ready to be released. With the solar eclipse shaking up issues around sharing, intimacy and money, it’s an excellent time to phone a friend…or a professional! Talk therapy, couples counselling or the advice of a trusted financial advisor are all excellent strategies to work with the energy and make it work for you.

Tip: Get ahead of the curve and seek a second opinion about a financial issue you’ve been trying to avoid.
