What You Need To Know About Michael Hill’s New Not-For-Profit

“We have the ambition to be one of the most sustainable jewellery brands in the world.”

Michael Hill is a brand with deep history and one that’s jewellery has helped shape the memories of women and men for decades. With humble roots, having been founded back in 1979 by the husband and wife duo, Sir Michael Hill and his wife Chrstine, the Michael Hill we know today has over 300 stores spanning three countries. Now, the brand is expanding its impact further with the launch of its new not-for-profit, The Michael Hill Foundation.

As part of the brand’s commitment to its 2030 sustainability goals, The Michael Hill Foundation will focus its efforts in two main areas: empowering women and restoring nature. “The launch of The Michael Hill Foundation is the next step in our commitment to a more sustainable future for our planet and a strong focus on empowering women—a cause incredibly close to our brand,” says Michael Hill’s Strategy Manager and Head of Sustainability, Kerrie Hockless. The foundation aims to empower women by supporting the disadvantaged in the markets the brand operates and nature restoration by ensuring a positive contribution towards the conservation of the natural environment.

The best part? You can help the brand on its mission. Michael Hill has set out to achieve its targets by donating a proportion of sales on selected jewellery pieces across its range to chosen charity partners including Dress for Success, The Period Purse, One Tree Planted, Women’s Refuge and the Collective Good Foundation. So, that means by treating yourself to Michael Hill’s classic Cultured Freshwater Pearl Studs, Diamond Serendipity Necklace, or any piece from the LAB. Collection, you’re not only going to walk away with a stunning new piece of jewellery, but you will be contributing to women empowerment and sustainability efforts, too.

“We recognise the impact our industry plays on the environment, and we are choosing to focus on sourcing our products to reduce as much impact as possible,” says Michael Hill’s Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Bracken on the launch of The Michael Hill Foundation. “We have the ambition to be one of the most sustainable jewellery brands in the world and we are proud to be progressing our goal.”
