Fact: Jules Sebastian’s house is breathtaking. Literally. It’s near impossible not to gasp at the sight of her architecturally designed two-storey home that features impossibly high ceilings, exceptionally vast spaces, a show-stopping spiral staircase and a mostly glass exterior that welcomes an enviable amount of natural light into each and every room.

Located in the beachside suburb of Maroubra in Sydney’s east, Sebastian’s four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is every minimalists and modern architecture-lover’s dream. The host of Tea With Jules and founder of The Sebastian Foundation moved into the newly built property a year ago with her husband, Guy, and their two sons, Hudson, seven, and Archer, five, and has never felt more at home.

Unsurprisingly, this spectacular property took years to create — five to be exact. “We had a huge building process which took us five years to complete,” explains Sebastian. “We bought an existing property and knocked it down and started from scratch. We were initially attracted to the size of the land as it’s not common to find good land size in Sydney’s east.”

Sebastian and her husband Guy — the acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter — worked with Sydney-based architect Joe Snell of Studio Snell to build their dream home. “Joe is passionate about good design and really cares about the flow of a house — he sat with us and really got to know us before he even began at the drawing board,” she says. “We had a vision of using concrete, steel and glass as our main materials for the home and we also love to entertain so an indoor-outdoor area was important to us.”
