Conscious Collection: September 2023
We’ve got some blooming good news!
Spring has finally sprung and it’s time to revitalise your skincare regimen. Before you switch to mini dresses and linen sets, read up on what’s been happening in the sustainable beauty bubble because, as per, there’s more than I can fit in this column.
NEW
Introducing Avène’s newest (and greatest) product, the Tolerance Control Intensive Skin Recovery Serum. This serum calms, hydrates and rejuvenates the crankiest and driest of skin. Perfect for those with sensitive skin looking for a serum that won’t only repair the skin’s barrier but is an all-round hydrator. Avène is known for sourcing 86 per cent of their ingredients locally from around France, with 50 per cent being from the region where their factory is in order to support the local economy and keep their carbon footprint as low as possible.
Avène Tolerance Control Intensive Skin Recovery Serum 30ml
Conscious Code: Locally-made
NOTEWORTHY
Ready for a subtle sun-kissed glow? As our legs leave their jean jails and experience the outside world again, maybe now is the time to add a little colour. Choose a sustainable tanner that will give you a subtle glow without the nasties or chemicals. You can see the full the list here but here are a couple of my faves:
Eco Tan Face Tan Water
Conscious Code: Locally-made, Vegan, Cruelty-free
Bondi Sands Pure Gradual Tanning Lotion
Conscious Code: Locally-made, Vegan, Cruelty-free
TREND ALERT: LIP OILS
Looking for a high gloss lip that will go the distance? Enter lip oils. These have been on the market for a while now but I still know of so many people who aren’t using them. They differ from a lip gloss as they often contain jojoba oil which nourishes and hydrates your lips rather than just forming a glossing layer. Hot tip: look for a lip oil that contains hyaluronic acid for an extra boost. Hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times its weight in water so you’re guaranteed a dewy, hydrated finish.
Kosas Wet Lip Oil Pumping Treatment Gloss
Conscious Code: Vegan, Cruelty-free
McoBeauty Lip Oil Hydrating Treatment
Conscious Code: Vegan, Cruelty-free
Ilia Balmy Gloss
Conscious Code: Vegan, Cruelty-free
SUSTAINABLE SWAP
Spring cleaning time! This is your reminder to wash your makeup brushes. Looking after them and cleaning them regularly will help them last a whole lot longer. Your brushes are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and nasties which can result in not only your application being uneven but acne and breakouts. It is recommended that you disinfect your brushes daily. Realistically who has time for that? I try to give mine a really good wash every month. To do so I put a squirt of castile soap and warm water in a dish, and soak the brushes bristle down. Leave them for a few hours before giving them a good twizzle and spin until the water runs clean (this might take a little while depending on how frequently you wash your brushes). Leave them upside down to dry—easy!
