Conscious Collection: August 2023
So. Much. Is. Happening.
People ask me almost everyday, how can I be so optimistic when I am surrounded by planetary news all day? Well that’s why! It’s busy and forever changing and whilst yes their are the negative pieces but more good than evil. We’re seeing new brands enter the market and old ones up their sustainability game! It’s my favourite thing to see! Here’s a round up of what’s going on in sustainable beauty.
NEW
New kid on the block, and another brand that is putting an end to shipping water around the world, is Darl’. Less water means, less packaging, less weight and less shipping. The Darl’ Cleanser is a powder which transforms into a nourishing foam with water. Not only will it help you remove makeup but it harnsesses the power of snow mushrooms to plump and replenish and glucomannan to hydrate and suppor your skins microbiome. As a brand Darl’ is working with Re Purpose Global and the Water Footprint Network and are looking to offer refills for their loyal community as they grow.
Darl’ Cleanser
Conscious Code: Vegan, Cruelty-free, Community, Locally-made
NOTEWORTHY
Aussie botanical brand Leif is doing something a little different with their latest launch. Not only is their newest scent Flannel Flower oh so delightful but they’ve used a cellular extraction process which protects the plants and as the brand explains “harnesses its water-soluble blueprint of phyto-compounds to offer a potent extract true to its source.” Flannel Flower also comes in bottles made from 50% recycled content and is available in Leif’s refill pouches. A part of Leif’s goal to move the whole range to rPET within 18 months.
Leif, Flannel Flower Hand Wash
Conscious Code: Vegan, Packaging: recycled, refill
TREND ALERT: BODY OIL
Although we’re seeing a very slight increase in temperatures after a couple of months indoors our bodies skin is often left dry and depleated. The best cure? A nourishing body oil. If your skin doesn’t drink it up and you feel like an oily roast potato going to bed try adding a few drops into your bath. I find the warmth to be even more hydrating plus you’ll only use a fraction of the product.
Sans[ceuticals] Goji Body Cleansing Oil
Conscious Code: Cruelty-free, recyclable
Love Beauty Foods, Energise & Uplift Body Oil
Conscious Code: Cruelty-free, recyclable, locally-made, vegan
SUSTAINABLE SWAP
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again one of the simplest and easiest sustainable beauty swaps that you can make is ditching single-use makeup wipes. Reusable makeup wipes are so easy to use, cost effective and better for the planet. Simply just add water, wipe away a days worth of makeup, wash and repeat. You can’t really go wrong, there are a stack of good brands out there on the market so pick whichever tickles your fancy, personally I prefer a black pad or washer as they don’t show as many stains.
