Amanda Shadforth On The Art Of Personal Style

The artist shares how she honours her paradoxical aesthetic through her love of Georg Jensen jewellery.

The beauty of personal style is that it is just that–personal. Trends come and go but true style is timeless and a complete reflection of one’s own personality. For artist and fashion content creator, Amanda Shadforth, it’s a paradox between two selves that’s at the crux of her own personal aesthetic (and what has amassed her almost 700,000 followers on Instagram and a dedicated fanbase of her artwork).

“I would define my personal style as a real paradox of masculine versus feminine,” says Shadforth. “I always find that I gravitate towards trousers and blazers (because I’m quite a tomboy) but then I have this classic, understated tone to how I like to dress.” This unexpected harmony in polar opposites is also what Shadforth says makes Georg Jensen jewellery resonate with her so much. Drawn to the organic shapes, Shadforth is able to unleash her creativity and make her own rules when it comes to putting a look together. A freedom that Shadforth says is at the heart of her artistic and fashion inspiration.

“When I first viewed the Georg Jensen collection, I was really drawn to these beautiful, organic shapes,” she says. “Wearing them, they feel like part of your body and I love this nature of feeling like the jewellery is something you may have already owned before. I think that’s really sweet.”

Inspired by nature and the delicate textures that can be discovered, particularly in the Australian landscape, Shadforth’s art is yet another outlet where she explores the duality of her personal style. “I love to work on these really textured pieces where I use trowels to apply the paint but I also have these tiny little brushes as well. There is a real mix of grand textures and macro shapes balanced with tiny details.”

Daring to be bold and think outside of the box is exactly what the Georg Jensen woman is all about. Ignoring the traditional rules of jewellery, she is unafraid of mixing metals, textures and collections to make a look and an aesthetic that is uniquely her own. Individuality is celebrated and respected and it is this appreciation of creativity that is so intrinsic within the Danish brand.

“Some of the [Georg Jensen] pieces actually feel like they, themselves, could have been part of nature once before,” says Shadforth. “I see similarities in my own inspirations coming from nature as well. Georg Jensen was also a sculptor so I have an appreciation for the fact that his vision and legacy has lived on through his pieces.”

Whether it’s a gold-only look mixing pieces from the Offspring and Reflect collections, a bold silver-only look focussed on a statement necklace or a mixed-metals moment layering different bracelet weights to create intrigue and depth, Georg Jensen is the ultimate jewellery destination for perfecting the art of (your) style.
