5 Minutes With Lara Worthington

Lara Worthington is a long-time beauty muse of Gritty Pretty—she even starred on the cover of our magazine way back in 2015! Her blonde lob is quintessentially Lara and has become as recognisable as her genderless approach to style. (Let’s be honest, if you’ve tried a lob, you probably took a photograph of Worthington to your hairstylist!). On the red carpet, her style is understated—think tailoring, flawless skin and her lob slicked back to perfection. In other words? Chic. It’s no wonder we try to emulate her style at every turn.

As the founder and CEO of Share The Base, Worthington donates 100% of the profits of her cult-favourite BB cream (known as LB Cream!) to three Australian-based charities—WWF Australia, Humpty Dumpty Foundation, and Bowel Cancer Australia—and her brand collaborations tend to sell out.

Worthington certainly has entrepreneurial flair and her latest venture is lending her stylish eye to 2XU, an Australian athleisurewear brand. This high–performance exercise brand fits with Worthington’s values of living a healthy and active life and the resulting capsule collection of fashion-forward pieces will make you want to actually go to the gym. Off the back of this collaboration, we were able to nab five minutes with the Australian-born beauty and ask her a rapid-fire round of questions.

Hi Lara! Lovely to be speaking with you as always. You’re a beauty icon to us, so who is your beauty icon?
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Lauren Hutton are two that I go back to time and again. I think as I age and want to become more classic but also settling into myself. I love how they come across feminine and very natural.

How do you wind down after a chaotic day?
Once my sons are in bed it’s my time for a long hot bath. If I don’t have time (too sleepy and want to get in bed)—it’s a hot shower.

If you hadn’t become a model, what do you think you would have become?
Definitely something to do with nature and being outdoors a lot. Perhaps a gardener or zookeeper!

What’s your biggest beauty mistake?
Too much makeup and too much fake tan!

Last question—what do you never leave the house without?
Earphones. For phone calls, for music, for podcasts and it’s like a ‘do not disturb’ sign.
