Gritty Pretty Founder and Publisher, Eleanor Pendleton, has announced the appointment of Danielle Gay as Gritty Pretty’s new Editor. After an 8-year stint with VOGUE Australia where she held the position of Head of Brand (Digital), Gay joined the Gritty Pretty team in 2021 as Beauty Director, before being appointed Acting Editor in January 2023. Now, Gay steps into the role of Editor of Gritty Pretty.
“I am excited to bring my own fresh vision to the covers and pages of our digital magazine and to continue to grow our website and social platforms. For me, the audience comes first, so I look forward to continuing the two-way dialogue with our Gritty Pretty readers and ensuring our content is a place you can come to feel seen and heard,” said Gay.
Gritty Pretty Founder, Eleanor Pendleton, steps into the role of Publisher for the brand, overseeing the long-term strategy of the business. “To now be in the position where I get to see talented, professional and dedicated women not just grow and evolve but also rise within my business is a real privilege,” Pendleton said. “Danielle’s mindful and empathetic approach to management, her commercial savviness, expertly written words and sharp eye for editorial is what shapes Dani into a strong leader.”
Since joining the Gritty Pretty team, Gay has brought an unmatched depth of editorial expertise and industry knowledge to the brand. Interviewing some of the beauty industry’s most noteworthy names, from Drew Barrymore to Jonathan Van Ness, Gay is a skilled journalist who will now turn her editorial eye to the broader vision for Gritty Pretty Magazine. Having grown up with a love of all things literature and magazines, Gay said the promotion to Editor is a dream come true. “I’m full of gratitude and excited to lead Gritty Pretty into its next phase” she said. As for her editing style? Gay describes it as “creative, precise and empathetic.”
Pendleton added: “I can’t wait to see my beauty media company move into its next chapter with a new editor at the helm.”
