Model Anna Feller on Wellness and Beach Beauty

Clocking over 15 years in the modelling industry, Bondi-based model Anna Feller has that effortless, cool-girl look down to a fine art.

In a beauty editorial she produced for Gritty Pretty alongside photographer Ryan Conduit, her beachy blonde locks and edgy style is shown off to her best advantage. We took the liberty of grilling the 33-year-old on her beauty regimen, the importance of self-care and how motherhood has shaped her overall approach to beauty and wellness.

Gritty Pretty: What is your mantra when it comes to beauty?

Anna Feller: “I completely vouch for the idea that beauty comes from within. Whenever I am happiest, I always look and feel my best. However, staying hydrated, looking after myself and getting lots of sleep always helps!”

GP: Can you please talk us through your daily beauty routine?

AF: “My beauty and skincare regime is extremely simple. I like to rotate between Dr. Barbara Sturm Gentle Cleanser and Enzyme Cleanser to wash my face. Following that I will use one of her serums, depending on where I am and how dehydrated or sensitive my skin is—I love the Hyaluronic Serum, the Calming Serum, as well as the Super Anti-Ageing Serum. I then use her Face Cream to follow. I am completely addicted to her products! For makeup, I use the RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up Concealer and NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser for a glowy base, and then add a touch of Tom Ford Bronzing Powder.

GP: Working as a model, what are some of the tips and tricks you’ve learned along the way that you still use today?

AF: “There are so many things I have learned throughout my years in the industry—I find makeup artists amazing. They all have such unique styles and techniques and I am always learning something new. I keep my at-home makeup techniques very simple but my main advice would be always to wash off all of your makeup off before bed, as well as to keep your skin as hydrated as possible by drinking lots of water and herbal teas throughout the day.”

GP: You’re known for your effortless, beachy hair. How do you care for and style your hair?

AF: “My hair regime is devoted to Oribe! After swimming in the ocean I always rinse all the salt out, then while still wet, I take the Supershine Light Moisturising Cream and run it through my fringe and to the ends of my hair, leaving it to dry naturally. I always wash and condition my hair with Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner. As for styling, I love the Swept Up Volume Powder for my fringe and then build volume and a good level of grit with the Dry Texturising Spray for the rest of my hair. Another favourite of mine for beachy hair is EVO Salty Dog Salt Spray. I go to Paloma Salon at least once a week for an array of different treatments whenever I am in Australia—I don’t think I could live without my visits to the salon.”

GP: What is your favourite fragrance?

AF: “I love to use a natural, 100% gardenia oil. The scent is extremely nostalgic for me, it instantly takes me back to my younger years when I was living in Fiji, which was scattered with gardenias. It is also my mother’s absolute favourite scent so is very sentimental to me. I also am in love with LE LABO Tonka 25 —I wear it all the time.”
GP: What are the top five beauty products that you can’t live without?

AF: Extra virgin coconut oil, Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream, RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up, EVO Salty Dog Salt Spray, OPI Nail Polish in Samoan Sand.

GP: What are your daily wellness rituals?

AF: “I have hot water with lemon when I wake up and then follow up with a smoothie with banana, coconut water and a scoop of WelleCo Alkalising Greens powder. I aim to move my body regularly—I love One Hot Yoga, boxing at UNDERCARD Boxing or taking the Bondi to Bronte walk. My key is to keep my body alkaline and anti-inflammatory in order to keep me feeling my best. I also try to be mindful and meditate often, and just remember to laugh!”

GP: For anyone who keeps a keen eye on your Instagram feed, you would know that the beach is central to your lifestyle, right?
AF: “I live right on Bondi Beach so the beach is practically my front yard—it is where my son and I go to ‘get into’ nature. As soon as I am in the sea, it feels as though everything else washes away, and as I step on the sand, all of the hustle and bustle phases out and I’m in my own world. I call it salt water therapy, and the beach is truly our sanctuary. I tend to skip the hottest parts of the day and we use an array of different sunscreens depending on the day or time of year. I love all MECCA’s own-brand sunscreens and also use these on my son Banjo.”

GP: How has being a mother changed your priorities when it comes to your approach to beauty and wellness?

AF: “I’ve found that keeping it simple is the most effective way for me to approach my beauty and wellness routine—especially in the morning where I seem to be the most time-poor. Less is usually more!”

GP: What’s coming up next for you?

AF: “I have quite a few things in the pipeline, and what I will share is that I took a break from [my wellness website Wilder], but am currently working on a new perspective. I am also [planning] to switch my time between Los Angeles and Sydney more rapidly. I will be in Europe all of July working—with a bit of holiday thrown into the mix—and look forward to exploring [new] horizons as the weather cools down at home in Bondi.”
