NYFW BACKSTAGE BEAUTY: 3.1 PHILLIP LIM S/S 15

At Phillip Lim S/S 15, approachable cool-girl looks captured the attention of show goers who flew to New York City from all over the world.

Lim’s niche, so far as it can be defined, is clothing that’s dead on-trend yet unapologetically urban and punchy. A Gen Y’s dream, really.

“We have always been a global brand with a global view and we take multiple views on beauty,” says Lim. Adding, “The partnership with TRESemmé allows us to inspire women all around the world to achieve the looks they see on our runway”.

And so, if the rest of NYFW was anything to go by, gingham seems to be having its five minutes – or spring equinox – on the runway. But, I far prefer the seemingly simplest styles, like Lim’s olive green capri cropped pants. Then again, mention must be made of Lim’s more ambitious designs: woven organza cocktail dresses, that came off as unconventional and cheekily offered to wink a good bit of skin. It’s opulent yet utilitarian, which yep, speaks to me.

So, back to the American-Chinese designer, and it’s really of no surprise that Lim, considered one of the fashion world’s most lovable souls, gifted all of his runway models – including model of the moment, Binx Walton – with 3.1 Phillip Lim bags. Call it kindness, clever marketing or whatever you like – the man sure knows how to speak to women, which leads to perfectly timed segue of hair…

Frizzy-haired girls rejoice: humidity can’t beat you now. “This look is all about the flyaway top knot,” says Paul Hanlon, Hair Stylist for TRESemmé.“It’s inspired by a cross between Stephen Klein’s 1990s photography and the romanticism of the Pre-Raphaelites, but with a punk edge.” Adding, “It’s a simple, organic and youthful look that allows the collection to shine whilst still being a look girls can achieve themselves”.

Now, Lim and Hanlon are really talking my language.
