HOW TO GET HAIR LIKE CHEYENNE TOZZI

By now, you’ve probably been drooling over the images of Cheyenne Tozzi – Gritty Pretty magazine’s cover girl (like we have!).

On the set of our cover shoot, it was all about natural skin and textured hair. We wanted Cheyenne to look completely at home so what could be more perfect than shooting at Cheyenne’s own “Dolly House”.

Hairstylist, Anthony Nader, who created this look on Tozzi says, “I wanted to bring out “the real” Cheyenne that everyone doesn’t really see.”

“I wanted to make her more gritty than polished and glamorous,” he explains. “This was my chance to bring out what I love about Cheyenne, as I’ve had the pleasure working with her before and this time around, I wanted to show Gritty Pretty readers the undone realness of Cheyenne while letting her true humble personality shine through.”

This undone style is reminiscent of Brooke Shields circa 1980 in Blue Lagoon, which is code for Seriously Hot Hair.

      IN VOGUE

It’s not every day Vogue emails you asking to send a photographer to swing past your house to shoot and interview you. Actually, that’s never happened to me before.

However, a few months back, Amanda Mabel – a sweet and talented young photographer – came over and as you can imagine I was very excited.

In my mind, Vogue is a leader here in Australia. Each issue, expertly curated, allows you to get lost in its pages. To completely escape. But in recent years, with the rapid growth of digital, it’s Vogue’s evolution with technology that has really impressed me. Vogue, which has always been considered modern, doesn’t ignore the infinite platform that is online. It doesn’t resist it. It embraces it. Vogue is online and their website and social media is testament of that. Heck, the recent Inside Vogue: Eyes on the Future documentary showing how they created their 55th issue with Animal Logic is.

Mostly, Amanda and I chatted about my own experience working as a beauty editor at other magazines such as InStyle. But, she also got me to dish the dirt on what beauty products I really use.

P.S Thank you for all of your lovely emails and feedback on the new-look GRITTYpretty website. I couldn’t be happier that you love it as much as I do! Check it out on your iPhone or iPad too – it looks bad ass.

KENDALL JENNER: NEW FACE OF ESTÉE LAUDER

Kendall Jenner is having a good year. Actually, make that very good.

Having made her Fashion Week debut at February’s Marc Jacobs show, the 19-year-old has since walked the runways at Chanel, Givenchy, Bottega Veneta and Balmain.

Oh, and she’s just landed her first cosmetics contract — with Estée Lauder.

The social media sensation (who has a following of 15 million on Instagram) will appear in digital, TV and print advertising campaigns and play an active role in creating social media content, which will be housed Estée Lauder’s channels as well as her own. Just 24 hours after the announcement, Jenner has helped boost the beauty giant’s Instagram numbers by at least 50, 000.

“It honestly feels like a dream to represent such an iconic beauty brand — it is an incredible honour and quite humbling,” says Jenner. She adds, “I found out when I was backstage at Paris fashion week, and all this time I’ve had to keep the news top secret. I am so excited to share it now and be part of [the] Estée Lauder family.”

And to top it off, US Vogue has released images shot by photographer Patrick Dermarchelier of Jenner’s first full spread for the powerhouse fashion publication – clad in Chanel and Saint Laurent, no less.

Not too shabby for the Jenner-Kardashian sister. Not too shabby at all.

      MY SKIN DESTINY

It’s a fact of life: as we age, our skin does too.

It’s starts off in our mid-20s with a couple of tiny fine lines and perhaps a few freckles or sunspots. By our 30s and 40s, skin starts to become less flexible, losing its elasticity. Then, by the time we hit 60, deep wrinkles have set in, plumpness is no longer existent as the skin has sagged and our bodies are no longer able to produce collagen.

While the undeniable factor in skin ageing is time, you can control the way your skin ages.

You can control your skin destiny.

      WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY?

      [responsive imageid=’12158′ size1=’0′ size2=’641′ size3=’1024′]

Sometimes I’d kill for a piece of Cadbury’s dairy milk. Other moments, I like to indulge in salted caramel macarons from Ladurée or even Quay’s signature snow egg (gasp!). To be honest with you, it depends on the day, my mood and my willingness to spend money.

I follow the same kind of philosophy when it comes to selecting my beauty products and cosmetics.

A balanced mix between high end, mass market and smaller, relatively new labels? Absolutely.

In my beauty bag right now, you’ll find: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation and Chanel Lip Balm along with my number one hand cream from Lanolips and favourite Maybelline NY bronze eyeshadow. All products vary in price yet each deliver excellent results.

Besides that, I try to keep the ingredients of my makeup bag on rotation – even if that means letting go of precious cargo. Generally, as a guide, mascara lasts 3-5 months, foundation and lipsticks for around 12 months and eye liners up to 3-4 month. These dates apply from the moment you open and start using a beauty product for the first time. Sometimes it’s hard to part with products when you know they’ve hit their expiry date but if you’re using them every day, you should be able to get your dollar’s worth.

      What’s your beauty shopping rhetoric?

Do you embrace just prestige products or mass brands?

Or do you prefer to stick to a balance?

      BEAUTY TALK: FRIDA GUSTAVSSON

It’s not every day that you meet a 6’1” supermodel who is beautiful and charming but also intelligent, well spoken and so adventurous she had broken her ankle while rock climbing just a few weeks before.

Indeed, that was the case upon meeting the ever chic Frida Gustavsson at New York’s Trump SoHo Hotel recently.

Wearing soft pink and beige silks (courtesy of Chloé) and reminiscent of a Jane Birkin beauty, even Gustavsson’s perfectly imperfect tousled hair had GRITTYpretty calling a new girl crush.

From chatting about Gustavsson’s love of India and what it’s like walking the runways of Yves Saint Laurent to being the face of a Nina Ricci fragrance and yes, even having palazzo pants tailored by Miuccia Prada herself. Here, GRITTYpretty spoke exclusively with Gustavsson to reveal a day in the life of a very humble supermodel…
