7 Sustainable Face Masks To Test Out This Winter

With temps dropping, it’s likely your skin is looking for some extra nourishment. Cue: a face mask. But why not give a sustainable option a go?

I’m not going to lie, my skin felt the seasonal shift before I even realised that winter was coming. As much as it pains me to bid farewell to hot summer days I am looking forward to rugging up, wearing fluffy slippers and drinking approximately 234 cups of tea a day. So, much like our wardrobe changes when the cooler months roll around, so too should our skincare routine.

But before you throw your summer routine entirely out the window, take a deep breath. All that I’m suggesting is that you add a little extra nourishment into the mix–and face masks are the perfect way to do so. Depending on the formula, these bad boys can help keep your skin hydrated, reduce redness, handle pesky breakouts and help tighten your pores. Plus, they are the perfect addition to a winter bath.

Before we get started here are a couple of mask memos to keep in mind:

  • It is important to cleanse before any kind of mask
  • When using a clay mask always follow with a hydrating serum and moisturiser
  • Remember when you’re introducing a new skincare product to your regimen start with a patch test, add in one new product at a time and ease into it. If you start to get a reaction of any kind, stop immediately
  • Sheet masks are not flushable, dispose of them in your general waste bin

Skin Republic Reusable Silicone Face Mask

In an Australian first, Skin Republic has released a Reusable Silicone Face Mask. The thin silicone mask works to lock in serums creating warmth for even better absorption and doesn’t allow for any evaporation. Simply apply after your favourite serum, leave it on for 15-20 minutes, rinse (the mask, we mean, leave the serum on your skin) and repeat. Each mask can be used up to 50 times.

Sabbia Co Matcha Clay Mask

This is one of the few beauty products where I see results almost instantly. The matcha in this mask works to calm and reduce redness in the skin. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, pair this with Sabbia Co’s Charcoal Adaptogen mask, use the charcoal mask on your T-Zone to combat any breakouts and blackheads then apply the matcha mask over the rest to reduce redness.

You’ve probably seen this mask on your Tik Tok feed with users boasting about its ability to “pull blemishes right out of your skin.” This mask uses the power of botanical fruit oils to combat blemishes, blackheads and odd spots, plus the fact you only need to leave it on for 5-1o minutes is a multi-maskers dream.
