Vanity Affairs: Jesinta Franklin’s Hero Skincare Products And Homemade Body Scrub Recipe
Welcome to Vanity Affairs – an editorial series where we document the early morning beauty routines of notable women.
There are some women who have an I-can’t-put-my-finger-on-it kind of glow – a certain je ne sais quoi, if you will. You know the ones – their hair falls just right, their skin is dewy but never shiny, and they exude confidence without being arrogant.
In the interest of public service, we’ve set about tracking these aforementioned unicorns down to find out their secrets. Have you got your pen and paper ready?
This time around, it’s Jesinta Franklin.
Former Miss Universe Australia, model, mogul and now, mother, Jesinta Franklin is no stranger to having to fit her beauty routine into a (seriously) busy schedule. With an athlete husband – she is married to Sydney Swans legend Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin – and a lifelong love of wellness, Franklin launched an app, JESINTA, in 2019 where she shares workouts, healthy recipes and beauty tips with her followers.
Arguably, though, her greatest achievement is the recent birth of her first child, Tullulah. Having been open about her fertility struggles in the past, Franklin stressed the importance of being kind to herself when she fell pregnant. “I made sure to take extra good care of myself and was really conscious about my skin and body and making sure I was getting enough rest.”
Recently, the Olay ambassador sat down with Gritty Pretty to take us through her morning routine – from her simple skincare and homemade body scrub to why she doesn’t wear traditional perfume.
Skincare
“I like to keep things pretty simple. The first thing I do in the morning is shower and cleanse using the Olay Total Effects Foaming Cleanser. But actually, for the past six weeks or so I’ve been trialling a new Olay Cleanser that will be out in a few months. It’s a total game changer. And Buddy loves it too!
“After I cleanse, I apply the Olay Gentle Day Cream with SPF 15. Sun protection is so important, so I don’t just rely on this. I also think it’s really important to make sure you wear a hat and apply extra sunscreen if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the sun.
“The one thing I’ve also added to my routine [since falling pregnant] is the Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Treatment Serum from Olay. It helps with pigmentation and discolouration of the skin, both of which I found to be a bit of a problem when I fell pregnant.
“Pre-Corona and while I was pregnant, I had also been having more facials and was really mindful of taking really good care of my skin before Tullulah was born. I love the Blueberry Peel and the Hydrafacial at The Clinic in Bondi Junction and the Lymphatic Drainage Facial at Venustus in Paddington.”
Makeup
“My everyday look is just something super bronze-y and natural. I get to play glam a lot for work, which I love, but it is nice to not wear so much makeup on my days at home. For base, it’s usually something super minimal like the Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation Tinted Moisturiser or light mineral powder. I like it to be minimal, even if I have breakouts, because I still like my skin to look like skin.
“I will then use a little bit of the Givenchy Teint Couture Radiant Drops as bronzer, fill in my eyebrows with a Fenty Beauty Brow MVP Ultra Fine Brow Pencil, add a bit of mascara and that’s my go-to look!
“I also love Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick – it’s just the perfect pinky nude shade. And if I want to add a little boost around the eyes, I will use the Marc Jacobs Eye-Conic Eyeshadow Palette in Glambition.”
Body Care
“In terms of body care I love the Kora Organics Noni Body Balm that comes in the roll-up. This is such a game changer because you can just lie in bed and roll it up and down your legs. I’ve also been using the Two-Step Stretch Mark System from Pai. There is a moisturiser you put on in the morning, and an oil for the night, but I really think it’s more so about keeping your skin super hydrated. Coconut oil is also amazing.
“I also like to make my own body scrub with olive oil, coconut oil and pink Himalayan sea salt. I grate some lemon in it sometimes or some orange to give it a real citrus scent. I also put some magnesium oil and lavender in it if I’m using it before bed.”
Fragrance
“When I fell pregnant I was really conscious about using, or not using, fragrance – just because I’d done a lot of research into it and one of the things that came up was that spraying commercial perfumes directly onto your skin can soak into your bloodstream. So I did some research and found this perfume called One Seed, I use the scent Freedom. It’s made from 85 per cent organic content, is alcohol-free and is obviously better for you and the environment. That isn’t to say that I’ll never wear traditional perfume again in the future, I just think it’s about being more aware.”
