Beauty Editors’ Top Picks – July 2019

What we’re loving, coveting and “borrowing” from the Gritty Pretty beauty cupboard this month.

“My lips work like seasonal clock work! Usually during the cooler months, they become dry, dehydrated and flaky, which never looks nor feels nice. Since using the delicious Estée Lauder Pure Color Sugar Lip Scrub, my lips are super smooth but mostly they feel hydrated allowing me to wear my favourite lipsticks without feeling self-conscious. It’s a handbag staple!” – Eleanor Pendleton, Founder & Editor-In-Chief.

“When it comes to fragrance, everyone has their ‘thing’ and for me, that’s citrus. Last year, I think I went too far and spent most of the year wearing a scent that made me straight-up smell like an orange. Ellis Brooklyn West is a more elevated take on citrus. Featuring top notes of blood orange, clementine, lemon and basil, along with mid tones of pear blossom, waterlily and ginger. Catch me wearing this scent all summer long.” – Erin Cook, Beauty Director.

“Described as a primer/highlighter/base hybrid, I have to say at first I was a little apprehensive about using the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter — I’m always hesitant to add too much glow to my face, as my skin sits on the oily side of combination. This apprehension was misguided — it works as a dream underneath makeup, or as a glass skin, glossy highlight but without any tack. I’ve actually been skipping the foundation over the last couple of months and wearing this alone (as my first step), with a touch of concealer on any spots/redness, as it truly does make your skin look like it has a filter over it.

“I’ve already pushed two friends and a sibling to purchase, and they’re also hooked. I don’t know what I’ll do if this is ever discontinued (actually I do, I’ll buy in bulk and stash). I can’t do my makeup without it and can’t find anything that compares to it.” – Hannah Paul, Editorial & Beauty Assistant.

“The Tata Harper Hyaluronic Gel Moisturiser is heav-en. It drenches my skin with intense moisture, yet it is so silky and ultra-light, it feels as if I am not wearing anything at all. The scent is soft and botanical, fresh and almost grassy, which comes as no surprise as all ingredients are home grown on Harper’s farm in Vermont. The same ingredients – such as chia seed water – add powerful natural antioxidants to the recipe and help fight those nasty free radicals. It absorbs so quickly, and once all soaked in, adds the most beautiful dewy glow to my skin. This never leaves my side. ‘Til death do us part.” – Amie Jones, Art Director.

Davines Solu Shampoo gives my hair a really good, really thorough clean. As a clarifying shampoo, it removes all styling product and any residue that could be weighing my hair down. Afterwards, my hair feels light, hydrated and shiny. Tick, tick, tick. It contains all of the good stuff – including buckwheat extract, proteins, antioxidants, amino acids and mineral salts.” Erica Wildey, Business Development Manager.

“Having always been told that primer is an essential part of your beauty and makeup routine, I really must make more time to include it! When I recently rediscovered Clarins SOS Primer (in 00 Universal Light) in my cupboard and started using it, that’s when the comments, such as “your skin’s looking really good” and “you’re glowing”, started coming my way. The only change to my routine was using this product on a much more regular basis. So needless to say I certainly won’t be skipping the primer step again!” – Sue Hoffman, Brand Partnerships Manager.
