It might take months to nab an appointment at either of Jocelyn Petroni’s Sydney salons (she counts supermodels, Miranda Kerr and Megan Gale as regular clients) but, trust us, it’s well worth the wait. Quite simply, her treatments are an indulgent affair. They’re also effective, thorough and highly consultative.
“My team and I work hard to create an experience that differs to most beauty salons,” Petroni calmly explains.
“Most notably we use a Buddhist/meditative approach to our treatments, an approach that deepens our connection with customers and enriches our clients’ salon experience. Our team embraces the words of HH Dalai Lama, who said ‘giving to others is giving to yourself’. Our aesthetic is high-end but our approach is friendly and calm,” she says.
Treatment you have to try…‘The Signature Facial‘ tailors a range of products by Ultraceuticals, Sodashi and Priori to match your skincare needs – and coupled with Petroni massage technique, it’s a transcendent experience, if we’ve ever had one. $280 ($350 with Jocelyn) for 75 mins.

In true Melbourne speakeasy style, MADE by SELF salon is not signed and can only be identified by bright pink metal stairs. With help from her creative partner, Paul, facialist Richie Angelo has created a space where clients feel comfortable to divulge their skin issues and secrets without judgement.
Her goal from day one has been to set her business apart from a typical ‘day spa’ to create a beautiful and serene workspace rather than a clinical environment. Skin issues are treated holistically by looking at each client’s lifestyle, hormonal effects and digestive patterns. “I am not one to give false advice so towards the end of a treatment, after discovering a lot about a client, we discuss how best to treat their skin to ensure it is looking its best,” she says with a hint of pride.
Treatment you have to try… Do yourself a solid. Go for the ‘Samadara‘. The healing treatment involves a rose-quartz crystal facial massage that allows products to penetrated deep into skin leaving it intensely hydrated – like you’ve been drinking enough water this whole time. They’re calling it ‘the facial to end all facials‘ – now you try. $289 for 105 mins.

Tucked away in the leafy Sydney suburb of Double Bay, Melanie Grant tends to the skin of the rich, famous and a plethora of brides-to-be. We’re name dropping for her – previous clients include Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, even 90s supermodel Linda Evangelista.
“We specialise in just one thing – skin,” says Grant, who was recently appointed skin expert for CHANEL Australia. “The team are not sidetracked by trying to be a one stop shop by offering fillers, botox or hair removal”. Constantly in search for the best products and treatments, her challenge for the business will always be to innovate. To find the best way to get a result without getting caught up in fads, opting for treatments combining natural, organic and plant-based products with ingredients like human growth factors and stem cells.
