Latte Makeup Is The New Fail-Safe Bronzed Beauty Look
Like latte art, but for your face.
If you have been online at all the last month, there’s no doubt you have heard the term ‘latte makeup’. But, you might be wondering, what is this new trend and how can I achieve it? Well, we’re here to help.
Content creator, Rachel Rigler, initially uttered the term in a TikTok video and of course, we know how this goes. The trend has since gone viral and has been named as a new take on the fail-safe bronzed beauty look. Although the look isn’t necessarily groundbreakingly new—just ask makeup artist Ania Milczarcyk whose latte makeup resembling looks that went viral on Tumblr back in 2013 are now resurfacing— in our opinion, it’s one that will never go out of style. And, if beauty muses like Hailey Bieber are on board, so are we.
Centred solely on warm bronze, nude and milky coffee (duh) shades, latte makeup can be tweaked to suit all skin tones. From soft chestnut hued eyeshadow and eyeliner to soft nude-brown lips, the coffee-inspired trend can be incorporated into your whole makeup look and can even be achieved using products you might already have in your makeup bag.
Here, we roundup our top products for achieving the viral latte makeup look (or, flat white makeup if you prefer less ‘foam’ in your beauty routine).
The Complexion
Warm brown eyes and lips might be the focus, but that doesn’t mean we can forget the complexion. Latte makeup sits arguably on the more natural side of the makeup spectrum, so, a lightweight skin tint is the perfect in between. Our favourites include the Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops, the CHANEL Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint and the Ultra Violette Daydream Screen SPF50 Tinted Veil, if you want added SPF protection.
Next, it’s time for cheeks. Given the bronze theme of the look, you want to reach for your richest bronzer, and a blush that trends more nude-pink than pink-pink. Our go-to bronzers are the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer, the CHANEL Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream and the MECCA MAX Off Duty Contour Stick. As for blush, we love the FENTY BEAUTY Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in shade Rose Latte (an appropriate name, no?), or the Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush in shade Chouchette.
The Eyes
For the eyes, you want to use your favourite warm brown-beige shadows to channel that creamy latte energy. An optional addition is to add a shimmer shadow for a more glowy look. A palette like the DIOR Backstage Eye Palette in Warm Neutrals gives us the perfect latte shades, or, you can try one of our favourite makeup hacks – use your bronzer as an eyeshadow. As for liners, one of our newest favourites is the MECCA MAX Zoom Liner in shades Chocolate or Espresso. To finish off the eye look, opt for your favourite long wearing mascara for natural fluffy lashes. Ours are the MCoBEauty XtendLash Mascara or the Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara.
The Lips
Depending on your skin tone, a simple swipe of gloss could be all you need to achieve the latte makeup look. However, if your natural lip steers more pink, opt for a lip liner with a creamy brown undertone that complements your skin tone. A couple of our favourite fail-safe liners are the M.A.C Cosmetics Lip Pencil, or the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liner for a budget-friendly option. Softly line your lips along your natural lip line, blending into the centre and top it off with a creamy gloss or lip oil. We love the Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Treatment Gloss and the DIOR Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil for the perfect glossy pout.
