Get The Cover Look: Zoë Foster Blake

We take you behind the scenes.

It was aboard a yacht on glittering Sydney Harbour where the Gritty Pretty crew and Zoë Foster Blake assembled for the cover shoot for our Summer 2019 edition of Gritty Pretty Magazine, and let us tell you—the energy was electric.

And before you ask, yes, she’s just as hilarious, witty and gorgeous IRL.

In between answering our questions (and our reader questions), she reminisced about her days working as a beauty director at Cosmopolitan Magazine—Gritty Pretty‘s editor-in-chief Eleanor Pendleton was her beauty intern—how she found her niche as both a journalist and novelist, and now, successfully navigating being both a business owner and creative for her burgeoning indie beauty brand, Go-To Skin Care.

Photographer Ted O’Donnell, hairstylist Barney Martin—he coaxed those curls into two dramatically different styles—makeup artist Victoria Baron, and stylist Jessica Pecoraro were inspired by Foster Blake’s joie de vivre and natural energy on set, and we know you’ll agree that these images speak for themselves.

Check out what happened on our (floating) set, and we reveal how to recreate her cover look.

“Zoë has always been a huge advocate of an effortlessly glowy, healthy skin. Her eyes are electric, so this look was all about subtly enhancing them and letting them take centre stage. We used the Mecca Cosmetica Lit From Within Face Powder on the cheekbones, inner corners of the eyes, and the Cupid’s bow. I also used Benefit Cosmetics 24-Hour Brow Setter Clear Brow Gel. It was all about highlights and hydration. For the red lip, I applied a combination of lipstick and CHANEL Rouge Allure Liquid Powder in Invincible. I think a red lip can be strong, sexy, glamorous and playful, all of which [encapsulates] Zoë. I applied the lipstick and smoothed out the edges with a cotton tip, then added a layer of the liquid powder to the centre of the lips for extra pigment.”
