Two Beauty Editors Weigh In On The World’s New Favourite Foundation

The newest drop from your favourite foundation franchise.

Gritty Pretty’s Beauty Director, Danielle Gay, and Beauty Writer, Rose Garnett, were among the first to try Estée Lauder’s new Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Makeup SPF20. Here’s the duo’s text chain from the first full day of trialling the formula…

9:00AM

Danielle Gay (DG): I’m actually *so* excited to be testing out the new Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Foundation! I’m just applying it now…

Rose Garnett (RG): Okay, we are officially the same person! SO AM I! I have really high hopes for this product as I love the original Double Wear Long-Wear Makeup but have been after a sheer alternative for a while now.

DG: Totally! Especially during the days when we’re working from home, I really love a base product with a fresher finish. I know the original Double Wear is quite matte and has a much higher coverage so I feel like the sheer version will fit right into my everyday makeup routine for when I want a touch of glow.

RG: I agree. It’s also going on like a dream… I’m just using my fingertips and it is blending out seamlessly. Looking forward to seeing how it wears over the course of the day. I should definitely get onto some emails now!

11:00AM

DG: You were glowing during our Zoom meeting! It didn’t even look like you had makeup on. Just like your skin but better!

RG: I was going to say the same about you! How have you been finding the formula so far? I love that it has vitamin E to protect the skin against free radical damage, environmental pollution and, most importantly, blue light. I’ve been spending waayyy too much time in front of screens (especially since working from home) and have noticed that the blue light has been a major stressor on my skin. I’m very over my complexion appearing dull and dehydrated so THANK YOU Estée Lauder for the glowy base product I needed.

DG: Haha I’m a bit the same…although I have been getting into my reading more to give my eyes and skin a break! I’m also loving the hyaluronic acid in the formula. As you know, I love this hydrating skincare ingredient (and go on and on about it in the podcast LOL), so it’s great that I’ve found a foundation that combines sheer coverage with skin-loving ingredients. So far, so good! I’ll keep you posted on my thoughts later on in the day.

2:00PM

RG: Hi pal! Do you want to jump on a call at 3pm to chat through the podcast? I just got back from my lunchtime walk so I am available all afternoon.

DG: Sounds good! How was the sunshine? You must have been loving the SPF in the foundation while you were out and about.

RG: It was so nice! You should definitely try to get out for a stroll today. And the SPF20 is such a great addition. I still apply my daily SPF50 anyway (partly due to habit and partly to ensure that I am always fully protected from the harmful sun rays) but it’s always good to have the additional protection. In my book, there is no such thing as too much SPF.

DG: Such a beauty editor thing to say! But I couldn’t agree more. My desk is next to a window so I love that I have the bonus SPF20 protection against any incidental sun exposure.

5:00PM

DG: Not to brag, but I finally got my inbox down to 0! And I’m getting ready to log off for the day but I wanted to check in on how you’re finding the Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer? I think I’m converted. My skin still looks amazing after an eight-hour day. I don’t want to take it off!

RG: Me neither! Lucky for me, I have a virtual event later tonight so have an excuse to keep it on for a couple more hours. I know it has a 12-hour wear but at the rate it’s going I think it could last longer… I even worked up a pretty good sweat with a pilates session, plus my lunchtime walk earlier today, and it still looks as fresh as when I applied it.

DG: I also didn’t even need to powder today at all, which I think comes down to the fact that the formula is oil-free. I’ve even recommended it to a friend already and, by my glowing review, she was pleasantly surprised that it’s also super well-priced at $60!

RG: I honestly think that the price is one of the best things about it! Safe to say, I’m converted. Now it’s only a matter of time before my mum catches wind of it and steals it from my bathroom. Anyway, logging off now. Chat to you tomorrow xx
