Beauty videos and chill?

The unfolding coronavirus (COVID-19) situation means that we are all dealing with a lot of uncertainty and change to our day-to-day routine. At Gritty Pretty, we want to help you navigate through this time. We’ll be sharing self care advice and tips on how to look after your body and mental health. If there are any topics you want Gritty Pretty to cover, please send us a DM on Instagram.

As we near the end of week 3 in #iso, our entertainment sources are proving a little scarce. If you’re anything like us, you’ve most likely exhausted all possible options on Netflix, Stan and Apple TV and now need something else to pass the time.

Well, we have the answer: YouTube. Now, before you laugh hear us out. The site has come a long way since its humble beginnings of cat videos and fail complications and now houses some seriously beautiful, high value content. Reaching over two billion active users per month (that’s right, per month) the platform has become a goldmine of creativity, colour and, you guessed it, beauty.

With a dedicated beauty sphere (dubbed ‘The Beauty Community’ by loyal watchers) the YouTube beauty space is, as the kids would say, thriving. However, if unfamiliar with the platform, it can first seem a little overwhelming and perhaps even juvenile. We can assure you, though, that for every 16-year-old trying out their first smokey-eye on camera, there is a fully-trained (and chic) makeup artist waiting to show you her skills and enviable collection of cosmetics. It is these beauty vlogger unicorns that the Gritty Pretty team are obsessed with.

For The Francophile: Violette_fr

There’s a reason why Violette will forever be at the top of this list: she is the epitome of everything goals. From her New York townhouse, to her effortless bangs and her ability to create an extravagant yet natural makeup look, the French national is a hot topic in the Gritty Pretty Zoom meetings (we may or may not have binged all her videos). Appointed Estée Lauder Global Beauty Director in 2017, she is also responsible for creative directing many an Estée Lauder beauty collection (no wonder they’re so good). Known for her ability to make any makeup look appear chic and put-together (yes, even glitter lipstick), she is our go-to for when we are in need of a little beauty inspiration.

For The Celebrity Obsessed: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

While you most likely know her for her perfect pout, iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show looks and those pins, what you may not know is that British supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also has her own YouTube channel. Started after she launched her own beauty website Rose Inc., Huntington-Whiteley’s channel is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for some insight into her personal routine. Huntington-Whiteley is completely transparent – she shares the products she loves and the ones she doesn’t. The vlogs with the most cut through? Her skincare videos – where she discusses her ongoing skin struggles, proving she is human after all. You may even spot one of her famous friends from time to time.

For The Makeup Maestro: Lisa Eldridge

Counting Dua Lipa, Natalie Portman and Emma Roberts as some of her clients, Lisa Eldridge is a serious powerhouse when it comes to makeup. Formerly of the mysterious celebrity makeup artist club (read: the club where we never quite know how they do it), Eldridge decided to share her wisdom by starting her own YouTube channel. Creating looks ranging from a classic smokey eye to an elaborate rainbow winged liner, Eldridge is our favourite person to turn to when the bronzer in the crease look just isn’t cutting it.

For The Hack Hunter: Emily DiDonato

A former model willing to share the beauty hacks she’s learnt throughout her career, Emily DiDonato is the ultimate big sister. From hairstyling videos to makeup tutorials and skincare hacks, DiDonato’s channel is relatable and easy to follow. Interspersed with the occasional travel vlog and workout video, her beauty hacks are helpful and straightforward which is unsurprising considering she’s worked with some of the best creatives in the business. Her channel really is the beauty industry insider we never knew we needed. We have a feeling you’ll love this channel. Thank us later.
