Beauty Editor Top Picks – June 2017

As beauty editors, we get to trial A LOT of beauty products.

Hey, someone’s gotta do it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

To be completely honest and frank, a lot of what we test passes as mediocre. It’s a competitive – and repetitive – market out there so it takes something truly remarkable to stand out.

With that said, we’re introducing a brand new monthly edit to Gritty Pretty. Consider this our beauty honour roll; a list of the best products we’ve tested in the last 30 days. Keep reading to see what made the cut…

ELEANOR PENDLETON

Editor & Founder

Marc Jacobs Coconut Collection, $62-63.
I’ve become obsessed with Marc Jacobs’ Coconut Collection. The coconut-infused makeup essentials like face primer, highlighter and setting spray are the ultimate for skin radiance. I’m all about skin looking its healthiest, most radiant self and these products nail it. I like to mix a drop of the highlighter into my foundation and set my makeup with the spray.

Gritty Pretty x Gascoigne & King ‘Gritty’ Candle, $55.
This is the ultimate unisex home fragrance for winter. It smells of cedarwood, sandalwood and devilwood with just a hint of chocolate. It’s incredibly delicious.

Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil, $60
During winter, lips become chapped. This treatment oil has been keeping my lips soft and supple.

Oribe Signature Moisture Mask, $78.30.
I apply a hair mask every Sunday night – it’s my weekly ritual. This luxurious hair mask from Oribe has an addictive scent and keeps my strands intensely hydrated, which is much needed after spending two weeks in Bali.

Charlotte Tilbury Unisex Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturiser, $50.
I’ve just started testing this new tinted moisturiser from Charlotte Tilbury and I’m obsessed with the finish. If you want to look like you’ve just had a facial whilst on holidays in the Bahamas, this is for you. The clever technology sees the tinted moisturiser go on white before adjusting to your skin tone before your very eyes. Highly recommend.

WENDY HOANG

Beauty Editor

Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Balm, $29.99
Is this winter’s best body moisturiser? I’d say so. It doesn’t evaporate like a lotion, nor is it sticky like a thick, whipped cream. The perfect, deeply-hydrating, unscented in-between with an exclusive skin-strengthening complex that will not fail you.

Shu Uemura AMBUSH Rouge Unlimited Sheer Shine Lipstick in ‘Freedom’, $45
The perfect nude lipstick. A mix of pigment and nourishing oils that glides onto lips like melted butter on toast that won’t get caught up on any dry, flaky bits like other lipsticks do. I also use it on my eyelids because it’s such a universally-flattering, neutral shade.

MAKE Beauty Face Gloss, $33
Having been a longtime fan of MAKE Beauty’s insty, I was beyond excited when they joined the ranks of Net-A-Porter Beauty. Their Face Gloss makes me feel like a makeup artist because it’s such an industrial-grade product. The heavy duty clear gel will give you the best light-reflecting dewiness of your life. Apply only to specific areas like your eyelids, lips, upper cheek bones and collar bones. A little goes a long way.

Robert Piguet Rose Perfection EDP 100ml, $299
Want to feel like a chic, expensive, got-it-all-sorted, kick-arse woman? Wear this.

Clinique Fresh Pressed Renewing Powder Cleanser, $57
I took this on a recent trip to Paris because it comes in one-use sachets and then continued using it when I got back as my regular cleanser. After a week of using the highly active vitamin C cleanser, my skin was noticeably brighter and firmer. My only request now is that Clinique make it by the bottle.
