THE 7 DIFFERENT WAYS YOU CAN CLEAN YOUR HAIR & SCALP

If your hair gets more action than a Jason Bourne movie, a clarifying treatment is recommended at least once a week.

What you might not be aware of is that shampoo is only one way to get your hair all spick and span. In fact, purifying or clarifying shampoos, while great for those with oily hair, can often be too drying for the everyday Sue.

Day to day, your scalp needs nourishment and hydration rather than clarity, which is why these alternatives used just once a week are the way to go.

Like a GPS, ahead we’ve got your alternative options. Ones you didn’t know you needed so much, but they’ll get you to your metaphorical destination a lot quicker and more effectively than you anticipated.

Now go on and try something new. Spiffy clean hair awaits:

1. OIL

Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Cleansing Oil Shampoo reminds us of a Japanese onsen and has very much the same purpose in deep cleansing and rejuvenation. Enriched with Yuzu Citrus Extract, a calming astringent that’s cultivated at the base of Mt Fuji, these oil shampoos (pick the one for your specific hair type) builds up to a rich lather so you know it’s working, and leaves no residue behind. The consistency is less oil and more gel, so use generously.

2. FOAM

For high-end hair care brand Oribe, the answer to a congested scalp is foam. Oribe The Cleanse Clarifying Shampoo cuts out the middle man and manual labour (winning) with a spray nozzle that dispenses a thick mousse-like foam so you don’t have to waste time lathering up. Simply massage into your scalp, let it sit for a couple of minutes and rinse off.

3. SCRUB

Anyone running the gamut of hair styling products needs Kérastase Paris Chronologiste Revitalising Exfoliating Care in their life. The gel-scrub contains natural micro-particles that physically slough away squamous material on the surface of the scalp, while salicylic acid helps regulate sebum production. The gel also foams up quite nicely to remove any last traces of product build-up so you’ve got all bases covered.

4. MUD

If you’re not familiar with the holistic benefits of mudding, let us school you. Mudding or mud baths generally contain mineral-rich clays that rebalance the body’s pH, detoxify and relive aches and joint pain. Italian haircare brand, Davines, has harnessed the power of mud in its NatrualTech Detoxifying Mud sachets. Apply the product first thing in the shower after you’ve dampened your hair and scalp, then leave it on for about the same time it takes you to brush your teeth, shave you legs and do a body scrub (10 minutes). It’ll settle on your scalp like a mask and heat from the steam in the shower is said to enhance the clay’s performance.

5. SERUM

Another Davines breakthrough that has caught our attention is the rinse-off scalp serum. Used after washing hair, the Detoxifying Superactive formula is able to eliminate any leftover dead skin cells or product build up left on the scalp or hair so your other treatments can penetrate deeper and work better. If you’re trying to grow your hair out or want a thicker-looking mane, the key active ingredient of Glucono delta-lacton is an antioxidant that reawakens dormant follicles for hair growth, FYI.

6. CREAM

It’s no secret, we love SACHAJUAN . The Scandinavian haircare brand focuses on simple, clean designs and functional, innovative formulas – and their latest Hair Cleansing Cream stays true to form. Utilising conditioning waxes that work by creating a rich masque on the scalp and grabbing onto oils, dirt and other grime (because oils draw out other oils), it is a solid alternative for sensitive scalps and colour-treated hair that needs a detox.

7. NATURAL SHAMPOO

Of course, if you’re a stickler for what works and shampoos never given you a reason to doubt it, we’d recommend Pureology Purify Shampoo used every second wash. The trusty formula is 100% vegan and sulphate-free (ideal) and removes product build-up without stripping colour treated strands. Very important.

Strangemagic Us

Thanks for sharing us this one. I'm using both of purifying and clarifying shampoo. I massage hair with almond oil and do apply serum. And I'm trying not to use chemical shampoo frequently. Sometimes (once a month), i cook herbal shampoo with lemon grass or lemon leaves, or neem leaves for my hair :) http://www.strangemagics.us/
