Have you seen the new issue of Gritty Pretty Magazine Autumn 2016?
Shot at Contemporary Hotels residence Mona Vista, the brief was “relaxed, at home, effortless, fresh and candid” and working their magic behind the scenes on the day were MaxFactor ambassador and makeup artist Liz Kelsh, and hair stylist for TRESemmé, Sam Overton.
Here, we take you behind the scenes as these professionals reveal how they created the autumn cover look, including the exact products – down the shade – that were used and what it was like working with Shaik. Let’s be honest, we’re all dying to know.

MAKEUP
About that ‘model glow’, even Kelsh couldn’t help compliment the quality of her subject’s skin, which the Shaik put down to drinking lots of water each day. The look Kelsh achieved was both raw and polished. “I contoured Shanina’s natural features to bring out her natural highlights and enhance her freckles,” she explains, but not before applying a hydrating SK-II Signs Eye Mask to Shaik’s face to plump and reinvigorate.

HAIR
While makeup was to evolve, getting darker and building up to look more ‘done’, Overton’s job with hair was the opposite. We wanted disheveled and ‘lived in’ and at times entirely new looks (one minute hair was up and messy, the next slicked back and wet). For the shoot, he used a combination of styling foam to create lived-in texture, sea salt spray for volume and finished it with a flexible-hold hairspray for versatility.
