Everything To Know About The New Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment

Is it worth the money?

In exciting beauty news today, Dyson has announced the launch of its latest game-changing hair tool. The engineers at Dyson have turned the focus of their wizardry to solving one of beauty’s biggest problems: how can you tame flyaways without extreme heat? The result? The Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment, a new tool that attaches to the existing Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer and is specifically designed to eliminate flyaways.

Anyone who has tried to smooth out flyaways will know that heat is not your friend—often the heat from hair tools only cause these fine hairs to snap or even make them appear more prominent. The new Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment is here to change all that.

The Sell: A Flyaway Attachment that hooks onto any Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. The attachment harnesses the same technology used in the Dyson Airwrap, known as “the Coanda effect”. In other words, it’s using the very same magical air technology that’s also used in the AirWrap to push and hide flyaways under longer hairs so they aren’t visible to the eye.

The Price: The Dyson Supersonic Flyaway Attachment is $99.99, from Dyson.com.au.

Don’t own a Dyson? The Dyson Supersonic hair dryers will now come with the attachment for $599, available at Dyson.com.au. You’ll get the Flyaway and the following attachments: Styling Concentrator, Gentle Air Attachment, Diffuser and the Wide-Tooth Comb.

The Review: This is yet another genius Dyson invention. Here’s how I’d describe what this tool does: you know when you’re watching your hair stylist expertly navigate drying your hair with a hair dryer in one hand and a round brush in the other? And you’re always wondering how they do it because you don’t have enough hands to achieve the same thing at home? This attachment basically clips the brush right onto the hair dryer, making it a seamless experience. While you’re holding the hair dryer with one hand, the air technology is pushing the hair down along the curve of the attachment and that process is smoothing out the hair—just like the round brush and hair dryer combo. This Dyson attachment allows you to achieve that smooth and shiny look out at home and it really is pretty effective at it.

If you do struggle with flyaways, this tool would be an absolute game-changer, since the air also pushes flyaways underneath the rest of your hair, effectively hiding them. And because Dyson hair dryers don’t use extreme heat (they don’t need to because of the air technology), you don’t end up stressing out the hair follicle even more and experiencing breakage.

But even for those without stubborn flyaways, this is a seriously cool device. The hair is left with a smooth finish and has that sheen that can’t be achieved without a really good blow dry.

My verdict? The Flyaway Attachment definitely adds value to the existing cohort of Dyson styling attachments and at $99.99 it’s worth the money.

The Score: 8/10
