DRY SHAMPOOS THAT WON’T LEAVE HAIR LOOKING LIKE DANDRUFF

What would we do without dry shampoo?

Let’s all collectively shudder at the thought. We’d obviously have to wash our hair a lot more (everyday, maybe!) or risk having it look like oil-slick mess. Thank goodness for dry shampoo and its oil-absorbing powders. Thank goodness, we say. Best thing since soap, we say.

Still, early dry shampoo formulations left a lot to be desired. Often they’d clump-up, feel stiff or worst yet, leave a chalky-white trail that made it look like you had a rogue case of dandruff.

Thankfully, since then, high demand has meant improvements continue to be made: powders have become even more refined, tinted, had conditioning botanicals added to them – so now even dark-haired girls can reap the benefits of dry shampoo without people pointing and telling them they have ‘white stuff’ in their hair.

Here, we’re naming the best formulas for just that…

ORIBE DRY TEXTURISING SPRAY
The Thor of dry shampoos – powerful and plenty divine. It’s technically only one half dry shampoo (the other half texturising spray) but who cares when it works this well. Blasting out of the bottle ice-cold, the formula is scented with Oribe’s signature Côte d’Azur fragrance (smells like citrus and bergamot) and features whisper-fine polymer powders that go in so stealth you won’t realise they’ve worked until it suddenly hits you that your hair feels strangely fresh. You’re also left with a hint of volume so it looks like you’ve just had an expensive blow-dry too. Godsend.

KLORANE DRY SHAMPOO WITH OAK MILK FOR DARK HAIR TYPES
The old faithful of many hair stylists has now been adapted to include naturally tinted minerals for darker-haired gals. A quick arm-patch test shows that it’s perfectly matched for dark blondes/light brunettes. If your shade’s darker than this you’ll see the formula go in, but what we like about this dry shampoo is how quickly it fades after a bit of teasing and brushing. It’s also hypoallergenic with a spray nozzle that blasts the perfect amount of powder every single time.

R+CO DEATH VALLEY DRY SHAMPOO
Often rated as one of the best dry shampoos, we felt this quick-drying, lightweight formula left hair more matte and texturised than others listed here. Enriched with silica (one of the main components of collagen) this dry shampoo soaks up dirt and oil effectively, but that’s secondary to the volume it creates, making your mane look and feel instantly thicker than it did before. Get amongst it, fine-haired ladies. The formula’s also completely untraceable, even in direct sunlight. Now that’s impressive.

PERCY & REED RADIANCE REVEALING INVISIBLE DRY SHAMPOO
An arm-patch test reveals no visible residue. Great. Next, we spray it into our hair. Icy-cool and our hair definitely feels smoother, but again, there’s no sign of the formula. Rather, it feels a bit like hairspray without the intense stickiness. Originally formulated for red heads and brunettes, this dry shampoo has been enriched with wheat protein extracts that work to fortify strands. While we wouldn’t recommend this on super oily hair, it’s a great refresher by a respected professional brand.

ONE LAST THING…
If you’re using dry shampoo regularly, make sure you double-cleanse with your shampoo or use a purifying haircare range to completely remove product build-up that can cause irritation and dryness, which can lead to you actually getting dandruff. Oh the irony!

Tell us, what’s your favourite invisible dry shampoo?
