I Tried The Ultra-Chic And Ultra-Instagrammable Body Care Line, Nécessaire, And I Have Some Thoughts
$24 USD for shipping? It better be worth it.
I don’t know about you but until recently, chic body care was never really on my beauty radar. As a devotee to QV Gentle Wash and Nivea Body Nourishing Lotion, I always thought that bougie body care was a gimmick. Seriously, how different could it be? That is, until I came across Nécessaire. It was a cultural reset, as the kids say.
I stumbled across the brand via Instagram well over three years ago now (with the help of many-an influencer) and was immediately intrigued. The packaging, the clean and sustainable ethos and, if I’m going to be completely transparent, the French name, all screamed, “Rose, this isn’t something you want, this is something you need.”
The only problem? Australia was not on the shipping list. Sigh.
But now, this problem has been solved. Nécessaire recently started shipping to Canada, the UK and Australia; the body care brand is taking over the globe one country at a time.
The downside? Shipping is a steep $24 USD to Australia. Ouch. Naturally, I took it upon myself to road test the products before you put down your hard earned moola. Don’t mention it, babe.
Editor’s Note: Nécessaire is now stocked at MECCA Australia. Yipee! Click here to shop.
The Body Wash
The Price: $35 AUD
Why It’s Different: “The Body Wash is a daily multi-vitamin cleanser for skin health. Three luxe oils—marula, cacay and meadowfoam—help to nourish and soften skin. Mild plant-derived surfactants gently cleanse without stripping or leaving residue.”
My Thoughts: My favourite of the lot, this wash is full of good-for-you ingredients (think vitamin C, vitamin B3 and omegas 6 and 9). Not only does a little go a long way (which makes it kind to the back pocket), but it also has the perfect amount of foaminess and cleaning power. I tried the Eucalyptus scent which was delicious but it also comes in sandalwood, bergamot and fragrance-free variations. Big tick from me; will be repurchasing.
The Score: 9/10
The Body Exfoliator
The Price: $42 AUD
Why It’s Different: “The Body Exfoliator is a weekly multi-exfoliation treatment for skin health. Two methods of exfoliation—chemical and physical—work synergistically to exfoliate, soften, and renew skin: a gentle AHA/BHA trio (glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids) helps to remove dead skin cells, while pumice and bamboo charcoal soften skin without irritation.”
My Thoughts: I use this bad boy once or twice a week to renew my skin and keep it looking fresh. I love it for pre-shave or pre-tan days when I want that even base and again, find that a little goes a long way. Don’t get me wrong, I do love an exfoliating mitt to really get in there but what’s great about this is it doesn’t feel too harsh on the skin’s surface and emulsifies into a light foam. I have also definitely noticed an improvement in that body skin glow which, I mean, is ideal.

The Body Lotion
The Price: $35 AUD
Why It’s Different: “The Body Lotion is a fast-absorbing multi-vitamin moisturiser for skin health. Three luxe oils—marula, cacay, and meadowfoam— infuse skin with vitamins and immediately moisturise and soften the skin. Niacinamide helps to restore and strengthen the skin’s surface for a healthy glow.”
My Thoughts: Like the other products in the range, this lotion is luxurious and beautiful to apply. I went for the fragrance-free option (I often try to do so for products that soak into the skin) and it was a great happy medium between a lightweight moisturiser and a heavy duty cream. The only downside? For how much you need to use to cover the whole body, everyday, I’m not convinced its totally necessary (see what I did there?), as it ran out real quick.
