Shanina Shaik: In The Makeup Chair

[Shanina]: Hi Gritty Pretty, I’m Shanina Shaik. I am here in Los Angeles at the moment with the Gritty Pretty team. I just got my hair and makeup done, and we are here shooting the September cover issue. I wanted to show you some of my favourite beauty products that I use in my makeup bag and every day. So let’s get started.

One of my favourite beauty products that I like to use pretty much every day, not every day, is the Hollywood Flawless Filter by Charlotte Tilbury. I used this product on a photo shoot one time, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It’s a bronze, glowy, kind of like foundation and you can use it under your normal foundation, but this colour is 4.5 medium, and I feel like it works for every skin colour, if you want that, like, natural glowy, dewy look. I really love a bronzed, sun-kissed look. So this is like my go-to favourite product, and I can’t live without it.

Next, this product I cannot live without, and it has traveled the world with me. This is a brand new concealer, it’s by Rodial and it’s called the Peach Lowlighter, and it’s a complexion enhancer. You can kind of use it under your concealer and then over your concealer just to brighten your eye. And they come in two different colours. There’s the Banana Lowlighter, but the Peach works great for my skin tone. And, yeah, this is definitely a necessity in my makeup bag.

Next I have Bio-Oil Skincare Oil. It’s really important I think for mums to be, or just the average person, it’s really great for stretch marks and scars. I travel with it and I have it on set with me at the moment, because I have a few dogs and they scratch me up quite a lot. So it’s really important that, you know, I get rid of my scars, but it also reduces stretch marks. So that’s a great travel size as well. So I highly recommend having Bio-Oil everywhere you go.

My best beauty advice that I was ever given is more on a spiritual level. And I think it’s all about taking care of yourself and believing in yourself no matter what.

I would describe my makeup bag as travel essential, because I travel so much. So all the products have to be well-fitted in my makeup bag. I have a lot of liquids. It’s a lot of cream-based products, so and it’s very bronzed, sun-kissed, glowy.

I feel my most beautiful and empowered when I’m taking the time to look after myself, and indulge in self-care, having a facial, working out, surrounding myself with people that I love, those moments of being at home and relaxed, I just feel my most beautiful.

Beauty plays a huge role in my life, because it’s all about wellness and self-care. I think that’s really important for me. It’s not just about makeup and skincare. It’s about taking care of yourself from within.

I’m always inspired by the community of women who surround me, like my mum and my girlfriends, it’s kind of pushed me to do what I want to do, and follow my dreams and goals.

I’m currently eight months pregnant, which is insane. I’m expecting a baby boy. I’ve always wanted a boy. I just want to in-still in him and teach him that it’s important to be kind and caring, respectful, but also believe in himself, and to inspire to all his dreams and goals. I just can’t wait for this next chapter in my life. And I can’t wait to meet him.
