9 Beauty Resolutions To Make In 2022

Let’s hope these resolutions last beyond the first two weeks of January…

A clean slate, the New Year is the perfect time to reset for another 365 days of work, play and (hopefully) travel. It’s a time of reflection and rest and a time to refocus on what you really want—your goals, your dreams and your ambitions.

In the same way that we write down a set of resolutions for our professional and personal lives, detailing exactly how we’re going to have the best year yet, it’s important to jot down a couple of noteworthy commitments to your beauty routine. We know, we know, we may be a little biased, but nailing your beauty routine for your best skin, hair and nails yet is very important.

Need a place to start? That’s where we come in. Here, we roundup the top nine beauty resolutions we’ll be committing to in 2022 (and the ones we think you should add to your list, too).

1. Perfect The Double Cleanse Routine

We harp on and on about the benefits of double cleansing (if you don’t believe us, feel free to listen to this episode of Gritty Pretty Radio) but if you’re yet to commit to the clean-skin phenomena, 2022 is the year to do it. Especially with the ongoing mask-wearing, ensuring you are adequately cleansing your skin at the end of each day will keep breakouts at bay. We recommend doing your first cleanse with an oil or balm cleanser (like the Eve Lom Cleanser) and then using a nourishing cream cleanser (like the Tata Harper Superkind Softening Cleanser) or a gentle foaming cleanser (like the Dr Barbara Sturm Darker Skin Tones Foam Cleanser) for the second cleanse.

  2. Commit To A Weekly Mask

You-time is just as important as work-time, social-time and family-time. So, we think a commitment to a weekly face mask is a resolution worth keeping. Not only will this resolution keep your skin nourished and in tip-top shape but it will also give you an excuse to take 15-30 minutes to yourself each week. No distractions, just time spent relaxing and resetting. Our favourites are the Lesse Bioactive Face Mask and the Beauté Pacifique Instant Hydrating Masque.

3. Prioritise Hair Repair

Taking care of your hair is particularly important on the other side of party season when the use of heat tools is at an all time high. So, take 2022 to nourish your strands and get your hair back to its healthiest self. Whether that means adding a hair oil into your post-wash routine (hello, Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil) or committing to a scalp scrub once a week (we can’t go past the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Sea Salt Scrub), finding a hair repair technique that works for you is key to a successful 2022. Oh, and don’t skip on heat protection! The Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray is our favourite.

4. Wash Your Makeup Brushes More Than Once A Year

A breeding ground for bacteria and dirt, your makeup brushes are your greatest tool and your greatest enemy. Don’t worry, we’re not going to get all high and mighty and pretend like we religiously wash our brushes each week. But we will tell you that our 2022 resolution to clean our brushes at least once or twice a month is one you should be adding to your list too. Not only will cleanliness on the brush front keep your skin in great condition but it will also ensure those luxury tools (we’re looking at you, Rae Morris Pro Powder) maintain their quality.

5. Put Down The Heat Tools

Drop your curling wands and put your hands where we can see them. 2022 is the year of embracing your natural texture and, if you’ve already committed to resolution number three, this should mean your good hair days are frequent. Depending on your hair type and texture, we would recommend limiting heat tools to twice a week. But, of course, it’s about finding what works for you.

6. Step Up Your Sun Protection

We’re positive you already understand the importance of sun protection (SPF50 on the face all day, everyday) but in 2022 we think it’s time to up the ante with protecting our skin from the harshness of the sun. We’re talking about daily protection of your body. Whether you love a spaghetti strap singlet or a deep v-neck t-shirt, protecting your body from incidental sun exposure will keep you healthy and glowing for years to come. Our favourite body sunscreens include the Mecca Cosmetica To Save (Sensitive) Body SPF50 Superscreen and the Aesop Avail Body Lotion SPF50.

7. Give Your Hands Some Love

Your paws need love too! In 2022, we’re taking the advice of our mothers and prioritising hand care. Cuticle oils, hand creams, gentle exfoliants–you name it, we’re committing to it. Chipped polish, ragged cuticles and dry skin are qualms of the past. Our wishlist? The French Girl Organics Nail & Cuticle Oil and the CHANEL Le Creme Main.

8. Add Lash Care To Your Routine

Before you come for us for asking you to add another step into your evening beauty routine, give us a moment to explain. As we come out of two years of lockdowns, our greatest learning has been to embrace our natural features and celebrate them. So, taking care of your lashes will mean long, thick and fluttering lashes without the daily commitment to mascara or the hassle of lash extensions. Simply add a couple of swipes of a lash serum at the end of your nighttime skincare routine and watch your lashes lengthen in a matter of weeks. We recommend the Embryolisse Artist Secret Lash Booster and the Lancer Lash Serum Intense.

9. It Goes Without Saying…Drink More Water

We sound like broken records but it wouldn’t be a beauty resolutions list without a reminder to drink more water. The secret to great skin, mental clarity and properly oxygenated muscles, if you’re going to listen to only one tip we share today, be it the importance of getting in your daily H20.
