It’s ironic, isn’t it?! The ‘no-makeup makeup’ look can be one of the trickiest looks to achieve.

The key, however, is knowing how to play up (and play down) the existing tones within your complexion.

To make things easier, here’s a step-by-step guide using the new NARS Spring 2015 Colour Collection.

Step 1: The skin

Prep the skin with a primer to create a smooth canvas to work on, and follow with a light coverage foundation. Next, blur out any imperfections under the eyes with a creamy concealer and finish with a light dusting of loose powder to set your base. Now it’s time to play up the colours: dust NARS Blush in Reckless into the hollows of the cheeks to add some warmth to the complexion, while also subtly illuminating the high cheekbones and brow bones with soft pink shimmer.

Step 2: The eyes

Create a natural definition to eyes by blending NARS Eye Paint in Porto Venere from the lash line to the brow bone (you can use your finger to do this – it will help the eye paint melt and blend seamlessly). Then, line the upper lash line with NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto. Feel free to lightly line the lower lash line if you want – just don’t forget to softly blend using your pinkie finger! If you wish to use eye shadow, try a neutral taupe shade like NARS Bronzer in Laguna and don’t take it any higher than the eye crease (this is supposed to be a natural look after all!). To finish the look, lightly coat lashes with black mascara.

Step 3: The lips

Last but not least, the lips – colour them in all over with NARS Lip Stick in Liguria to create a neutral base. For a soft highlight, add a touch of NARS Lip Gloss in Guyane just in the middle of the lower lip – this will also give the illusion of fuller lips.

Voila! Au naturel. Well, kind of.

I am a fan of this trend in part because it encourages natural beauty.
