As AfterPay Australian Fashion Week kicked off in Sydney for 2023, editors, TikTokers, influencers and celebrities alike were busy styling and planning out their looks for the busiest week in our industry’s calendar. But for our editors, it all begins with the beauty moment.
Here, our Acting Editor, Danielle Gay, and Beauty Editor, Rose Garnett, share all the details on their beauty looks for the week.
“Nothing makes me feel quite as confident as a fresh cool-girl wave so I had to kick off Afterpay Australian Fashion Week with this voluminous yet undone look. As my outfit was quite casual I also liked the contrast of the bouncy hair look to bring back an element of glamour.”

“I start fashion week the same way every year: with a giant latte and an appointment with Redken’s team of expert hair stylists. On Monday, the Redken team treated me to a 60-minute Shades EQ gloss, a hair wash (probably the only time I’ll get to lay down this week!) and game-changing Acidic Bonding Concentrate treatment, followed by this chic tousled blow dry.”
— Danielle
“The Redken team suggested an updo to complement my statement earrings. The secret to this look was Redken’s Brushable Hairspray: a flexible hairspray that doesn’t compromise on hair texture and gives all-day control.”
— Danielle
“All the hair inspo I have been lusting over recently has been a messy, effortless braid so I couldn’t resist giving it a go myself on day 2. I loved that it kept the hair off my face and let my oversized coat do all the talking while still creating interest.”
— Rose
“I was inspired by the hair look at the Michael Lo Sordo show, created by Richard Kavanagh for Redken. The brief? Kate Moss goes dancing in a Parisian nightclub.”
— Danielle
“While Dani was in the ’90s, I was Living out my ’80s dream with an ultra-high ponytail. I went with a statement lip so I wanted something that pulled my hair out of my face but in a relaxed yet chic way.”
