In partnership with Elizabeth Arden.
Whenever I think of ceramides, my mind automatically goes to Elizabeth Arden. The brand is known for its iconic ceramide capsules so I was extremely interested when the opportunity came up to test the latest launch, Retinol + HPR Ceramide Rapid Skin-Renewing Water Cream.
The formula combines Ceramides with Retinol + HPR — meaning Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate — which is a high-performance Retinoid and is ten times more potent than pure Retinol, yet is gentle on the skin. It claims to improve the look of fine lines, refine pore size and dial up radiance while nourishing the skin (all benefits I would very much like to experience).
Personally I’m a big-time Retinol fan. Considered a gold standard skincare ingredient, Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that’s clinically-proven to improve cellular turnover, while stimulating collagen and elastin production. It works for almost every concern including wrinkles, discolouration, rough texture, dilated pores and congestion.
But because of its potency, it can be tricky to use. Often it’s irritating, or comes at the cost of redness, flaking and dryness. This is where Elizabeth Arden’s Retinol + HPR Water Cream stands out — it’s got all the benefits of Retinol, but the addition of HPR mitigates the adverse effects, without skimping on the results.
The star of the show is the 2% Retinol + HPR duo, as it’s responsible for the smoothing, plumping and refining benefits. HPR is unique in that it’s potent enough to produce noticeable results, but slow release, so it won’t overwhelm the skin (causing those adverse effects I mentioned before). And then we have the other hero ingredients: Ceramides to strengthen, Hyaluronic Acid to retain moisture, Peptides for repair and Ginger Root to soothe. What I love about these inclusions is that they afford nourishment and hydration, while keeping the skin calm.
My experience in a word? Impressive! I’ve noticed subtle improvements in fine lines around my eyes and some lingering post-acne marks have faded. I feel as if my face looks fresher, more luminous, and glowing with health. Overall, I really think it’s the perfect Retinol for both beginners and seasoned users who prefer a considered or less irritating approach. The results are there, but it respects the skin (a combination that’s not always easy to find).
