The Top Beauty Trends From The 2024 Fall-Winter Fashion Season
These are the emerging trends to know now.
The fall-winter and spring-summer fashion month seasons mark an important time of year for not only the fashion industry but the beauty industry, too. Often, the makeup and hair trends seen on the runways and in street style looks are what we see become the biggest trends in beauty for the months to follow. If you watch closely, you might even pick up on trend subtleties before they make it big more broadly. In other words, if you want to be ahead of the game, you’ve got to keep your finger on the pulse.
Luckily, this fall-winter 2024 fashion month season, we’ve been keeping our eye on the biggest beauty trends walking down runways, so you don’t have to. Here, we round up the top beauty trends we saw emerging at New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks.
More Is More
From doll-like glam, to exaggerated eye makeup, more is more this season.
Although it was the Maison Margiela doll-like glam, executed by none other than makeup legend, Pat McGrath, that put more is more beauty in the spotlight this season, we saw exaggerated makeup and hair on runways everywhere. From the Marc Jacobs show where models sported over the top voluminous wigs and extravagant eye makeup to Helmut Lang’s heavy grunge eyeshadow, theatrical beauty is in. For a more subtle take on the trend, try adding a dark lipliner and an ultra-glossy lip gloss to your next makeup look.
All Red Everything
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: red is back.
If fashion month is anything to go by, it seems the reemergence of red is here to stay. As for what shade of the colour? Nothing is off limits. Poppy red lips paired with fresh skin was seen at the Khaite show, whereas models at Anna Sui donned a deep burgundy red. If we know anything about this trend, it’s that the colour can be incorporated into your beauty looks seamlessly from your nails to lips and even hair accessories.
Au Naturel
Natural locks are a girl’s best friend.
Models on the runways of fashion houses like Ferragamo and Tom Ford proved that you don’t need to spend hours perfecting your hair to look put together. That’s right, it’s all about embracing your natural undone locks and ditching the perfectly styled hair. One that I think we can all agree is easy to embrace, this trend requires nothing more than a simple carefree approach–start by adding a smoothing product to tame frizz, a hair oil for shine and let your natural hair do the rest.
Clean-Girl Skin
Fresh skin is never not in.
Somewhat drowned out by the ‘mob-wife aesthetic’ that flooded our social media feeds in recent months, the ‘clean-girl aesthetic’ beauty looks aren’t going anywhere. We saw fresh faced beauty across the runways of the likes of Loewe, Tory Burch and Sandy Liang, so it’s safe to say that fresh skin is always in. Think dewy complexions, nude lips and natural barely-there bronzer.
Make A Statement
Say hello to oversized bows and chain hair ties.
Seen both on and off the runway this season, hair accessories are here to make a statement. A trend that was common on the streets, hair accessories like pearl clips, headbands, oversized scrunchies and ribbons were seen on show-goers everywhere as they dashed between show locations. On the runway, we saw chain-like hair ties at Balmain and oversized long bows tied around low ponytails at CHANEL. One of the easier trends to adopt, simply add some embellished clips to your slick bun or pop on a headband to elevate your look.
Subtle Colour
If CHANEL and Dior are doing it, so are we.
Arguably one of fashion months most dominant makeup trends, subtle hints of colour were seen in the beauty looks across luxury fashion houses like CHANEL, Hermès and Dior. Whether it be burgundy lashes courtesy of Hèrmes’s Beauty Creative Director, Gregrois Pyrpylis, a pop of colour on the lids as seen at Dior, or subtle coloured eyeliner per CHANEL, this trend is all about experimenting and making it your own. Grab a cute pastel eyeliner and try it yourself at home for your next event.
