      Phthalates

A class of chemical used as plasticisers (added to plastics to soften them), phthalates are commonly found in food packaging and plastics. Phthalates with potential adverse effects have been phased out of cosmetics in Australia. They were previously used to extend the longevity of a scent, or to help nail polish resist chipping.
